All,

I have a question regarding shotguns gauge.

I have always shot a 16g whenever hunting. I also have a good source of 16g buck rounds (remington). I was wonderning about the differences between 12 and 16 00 buck, velocity, coning etc etc.

I shoot an Ithaca new version, and have an old 16g m37 lying around. I was thinking of acquiring another barrel, shortening it and using that older ithaca for home defense/shtf.

16 gauge will work OK for HD. The only problem with that is the lack of variety in loads. All I've seen in 16 gauge has been 1 buck. I happen to like 1 buck, but more choices would be advantageous.

With the exception of non toxic and turkey loads, the 16 is very close to the 12 for most anything.

In emergencies, I'd rather have a 12. Better chances of resupply.

HTH...

You may run across a problem with installing a different barrel on an older Model 37 -- they were not made to interchange on the older models.
