Thinking about selling my XD9 (rant/question)

I compromised and got my XD9 a few months back intending to use it in USPSA Production and a little random shootin' at the range. I got a smokin' deal on a maybe-used-hard-to-tell gun (I stripped it next to a NIB one, and mine actually looked a little newer!) and have so far been pretty happy.

After a little less than 300 rounds, my Striker Retainer Pin (Part #35 on the Slide Part List in the manual) has a little chip coming off the top. Normally, no big deal. I call Springfield and then the hell started.

The first woman I talked to said she had to talk to a tech and would call me back. She didn't. I called back and talked to someone who was unwilling to help me, saying she wanted to make sure the other woman hadn't done anything yet. I informed her that the first woman had said she was just going to talk to the tech and call me right back. The techs had gone home by this point and Woman #2 couldn't help me. I told her exactly which part it was, and could she please send me out a new one right away? She put me on hold for a while, and then told me yes, it'd be there in a few weeks.

Well, I had a match scheduled for this weekend and the weekend after, but I guess I'm out of commission for a while. Then, the next morning I get a call from a completely different woman saying that the techs changed their minds, can't figure out what is going on, and I need to send my gun in for service. Turn around time? "Oh, at least two weeks, I think". I told her I had matches scheduled and that this was my competition gun and was offered an insincere apology.

I'm not very happy with their customer service, and to tell the truth I'm not that happy with the gun. It feels good in my hand, and yeah, it shoots well, but I'm just not very accurate with it. It doesn't point as well as I thought it did... I think I just had a weird grip that day in the store. All things considered, I think I would be happier with a different gun...

Therefore, when it gets back from the shop, I think I'm going to try to sell it.

That was the rant portion of this post. Now comes the question part! It's been difficult for me to determine the market value of a used XD recently... prices are all over the place, and not many people are selling them anyway.

I have the XD-9, no factory box or lock, but a different box and Master lock. I've got a Fobus holster (on the way, be here tomorrow), and a total of 5 mags... 4x 10rd 9mm and 1x .40s&w, which holds 15 rounds of 9mm. Also have an Uncle Mike's Kydex Double Mag paddle pouch. I'd want to sell it as a package.

Are people out there looking? Is this a bad time to be selling guns? Seems like nobody is selling right now...

I can't help you with your pistol, since I'm completely unfamiliar with it, but can assure you people are buying, selling, trading, swapping, and buying more guns, and I have a hunch business will pick up even further as the word about the national economy spreads.

XDs are more of a spring fashion. You'll find the best time to sell will be when the stores start stocking summer clothing. Right now, only winter styles are in, like the CZ models and steel framed autos in general.

That's from Martha Stuart's 'A Pistol For Each Season'

Seems a little extreme for a gun that you otherwise like. Maybe you could just offer to pay for the part, it would make your point pretty well with the techs. Just my 2c.

What size is it? What color? How many rounds?

Then sell. Because your not ever going to be satisfied until you do. It will eat away at you every time you look at a different gun and your going to be thinking "I should have."
Look, guns are a lot of things. Tools, Protection, Investments, Collectibles... all of that... but most importantly, guns are ENJOYMENT. If your not enjoying the gun, and you have no pressing need for the other aspects like protection or gathering food with it... then go trade it in on something. Something that you really want.

Do it today, and you will have a much better weekend for it. Go trade it in on a CZ-75B or something.

What George said. I like XDs, but life's too short for guns you aren't 100% happy with. I've had good experiences with Springfield's customer service, if not their non-existent 'quality' assurance :barf:

Can't wait to dump my M1A. I'd pitch it in the river if I didn't pay so damn much for it :barf:

All things being equal, I like the XD too. I'm not satisified with *my* performance with the gun, and I'm pretty unhappy with Springfield.

I will admit, as well, to having a bit of buyer's remorse for not holding out for the P99 that I really wanted :) Or being smart and buying a CZ for less than either.

"holding out for the P99 that I really wanted"

Come on VanBeast... you know what to do now. Wait for your lunch break, and then go make the trade.

(If your gunshop wont work with you on this, then they are not worth being your gunshop.)

haha yeah. It's going to be a little while before I've got the balance saved up. Plus the gun's got to go back for service first.
