HOME DEPOT GEORGE July 19, 2008, 08:16 PM For some sick reason I can't figure out I actually would like to have this in the safe but I won't fire it until I can cover the deductible on my medical insurance. Heres the link http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=105004036

TexasRifleman July 19, 2008, 08:22 PM I just wanna watch you shoot it..... From a couple hundred feet away of course
There are some things that just shouldn't be done.
.cheese. July 19, 2008, 08:24 PM TexasRifleman hit the nail on the head.
Remember the 416 nitro express Thompson video? I'd imagine this would make that look tame.
General Geoff July 19, 2008, 08:24 PM I can't imagine a .45-70 would gain much velocity out of a 1-1.5" barrel. Probably have less energy than a .45 colt, if using factory loads of both out of a gun with that same barrel length.
.cheese. July 19, 2008, 08:25 PM I can't imagine a .45-70 would gain much velocity
probably not, but the shooter sure would (in the opposite direction of course).
never_retreat July 19, 2008, 08:28 PM Holy crap, That would look good on my tactical wheelbarrow.
Does anyone know if they make a ankle holster for it.
Packman July 19, 2008, 08:30 PM Yikes. I wanna get some really thick plexi and watch someone touch this off.
OAKVILLE SHOOTER July 19, 2008, 08:31 PM There is a reason that it is UNFIRED.
kid_couteau July 19, 2008, 08:44 PM Oh
I want this
I mean I really do
I can load for 45-70 and I could start way downloaded and work my way up

Seafarer12 July 19, 2008, 10:28 PM Waste or money. Might as well just buy an off the shelf S&W 460 snubby. It would have more punch and the ability to fire other ammo.
jasonguerard July 19, 2008, 10:39 PM and I thought I was sick wondering what a 30-06 pistol would be like, YIKES !
Carl N. Brown July 19, 2008, 10:41 PM Ah, the Thunder Five. Originally offered in .45 Long Colt / .410 shotshell.
The Taurus Judge is a nicer looking .45/.410 revolver.
Thunder Fives look kinda industrial compared with the Taurus which
looks like a S&W with a really looong cylinder.
But the Thunder Five does come with an optional .45/70 cylinder.
I suspect that is more for loading shotshells in .45-70 casings than
actually shooting .45-70 bulleted rounds from a snubnosed revolver.
Talk about a hand-held flash bang. I have looked at the Thunder
Five but could never bring myself to buying one.
TehK1w1 July 19, 2008, 11:08 PM Yikes, that's almost as bad as the legendary 45-70 derringer. 540gr Garret Hammerheads anyone?
Warren July 19, 2008, 11:10 PM The perfect gun to defend yourself against the teeming, angry hordes of urban bison.
mrsig July 19, 2008, 11:12 PM It looks like fun, but I do see a small problem. .45 Long Colt is .451 while .45-70 is .458.

EHCRain10 July 19, 2008, 11:38 PM if it had a 6+inch barrel i might think about it for handgun hunting
Gator July 20, 2008, 01:37 AM Factory 405 grain Remington .45-70 ammunition is loaded to trapdoor levels; I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it in this gun and I'm sure it would be much more pleasant than my 3" .44 mags. Besides, half the powder (or more) probably wouldn't even get burned.
Stevie-Ray July 20, 2008, 01:51 AM Yup, the 405s would be pleasant enough. But try a 300 gr Remington. Man, that hurts just thinking about it. I'd pay to see the fireball just once. And then count the powder flecks on the onlookers' faces.
Ric July 20, 2008, 02:09 PM I can think of many other and more fun ways to hurt myself
RyanM July 20, 2008, 11:45 PM I need one of those now. Where'd all my money go?
KiltedClaymore July 21, 2008, 01:58 AM only one word to respond to this. NO.
Red Tornado July 22, 2008, 03:46 PM I want to watch someone shoot it at night (from a safe distance) to see the gout of flame extending from the barrel. The unburned powder would probably shoot far enough to resemble a mini flame thrower.

ArmedBear July 22, 2008, 04:22 PM Funny!
The .45-70 is a totally inappropriate round for a snubbie, and not just because of the recoil. That huge case is full of powder, that takes a little while to burn. In a snubbie, the bullet will pop out at a rather low velocity, and most of the powder will burn after the bullet has already left the barrel.
It's funny -- the manual says, "Be Smart, use a safe!" It should say, "Be Smart, just leave this gun in the safe."
NG VI July 22, 2008, 04:47 PM Yeah well all that powder burning just outside the muzzle would be the perfect way to cauterize the bruise you leave on your attacker's body!
Technosavant July 22, 2008, 04:49 PM I think the quote from Jurassic Park applies: "You were so busy wondering if you COULD that you never stopped to wonder if you SHOULD."
8830 July 22, 2008, 05:20 PM At least it's got some weight to it so it wouldn't be as bad as shooting an American Derringer in 45-70. I had a friend whose a gun guy buy one. He would shoot it standing at the 7 yard line and then walk back to the 25 yard line to pick it up and reload. I never shot it but it sure was funny to watch.
HB July 22, 2008, 05:24 PM Black Powder loads would be cool. Just load blanks and incinerate the poor copperhead that jumps in your canoe

FLoppyTOE July 22, 2008, 06:36 PM I'm not going to lie, that thing scares the crap out of me!
ravencon July 23, 2008, 01:39 PM I'll wait for the scandium model. Something that large would benefit from a light weight version.
Prepster July 23, 2008, 02:23 PM Maybe Kel-Tec can make a subcompact polymer framed 45-70 that weighs less than a pound
Zip7 July 23, 2008, 02:29 PM I think most people here agree - someone here should buy it, go shoot it with some heavy loads, video the whole affair and put it on youtube so we can all watch!
kwelz July 23, 2008, 05:54 PM Prepster I was thinking a Titanium or Scandium Revolver like Taurus and S&W have made.
KiltedClaymore July 23, 2008, 06:28 PM Black Powder loads would be cool. Just load blanks and incinerate the poor copperhead that jumps in your canoe
and light your pants on fire while your at it
