Why can't they make... (VEPR/Saiga)

I wish they'd make a long-action VEPR or Saiga in .30-06, 7.62x54mmR, and 8mm Mauser.
Imagine. Reliable, rock solid AK rifles, 5 and 10 round mags (with higher capacity ones possibly available once the ban ends), selling for $300 to $600 (between the Saiga and the VEPR), that can use all of that inexpensive 8mm, 7.62x54mm, or that Russian steel-cased .30-06. Good for hunting, cheap for plinking, loads of fun.
Am I the only one that would buy one? I don't think so.

I've been waiting for a 7.62x54mm Saiga since Saigas came out with calibers other than 7.62x39. I want one to make an ersatz Dragunov out of it. The Romanian Dragunov wanna-be is just too much money. I can get several Mosin Nagants in great to excellent condition for the price of one Romanian Drag. But, when all is said and done, the Mosin is more forgiving with different 7.62x54 ammo such as heavy ball and heavy softpoints. Though the Mosin with heavy ball is not necessarily more foriving on your shulder.

I have heard the .30-06 Saigas are coming in November along with a .30-06 Vepr.
No word on the other calibers though.
Edit: I see that EAA does list the new Saiga 100 rifle on their website in .30-06. Not sure if this is it or if they plan on bringing in a standard model as well.

They do make a .30-06 and .270 Saiga; but it's the rarely seen Saiga 100 series and uses a limited 3-round box magazine. Fine for hunting, I prefer at least 8-10 rounds in my semiauto rifles.

Isn't there already some sort of long action AK derivative from one of the satelite countries? It was built in 7.62x54.]
I imagine this is a big deal to do. The receiver is only so long on an AK.

Well, the Romanian PSL is basically a Kalashnikov (not a true Dragunov). They have numerous 7.62x51mm Kalashnikovs.
A long action would be .30-06, .270, 8mm Mauser, etc.
An uber-long action AK in .338 Win Mag would be just the coolest, too.

A .30-06 Saiga? How long do you supose it will be until someone converts that to a pistol grip configuration that uses BAR mags.
Edited for typo

And if they did, where would you get ammo?
That new Russian round sounds interesting, but until Wolf and Barnaul start making it in quantity, I'd prefer .30-06, 7.62x54mmR, and 8mm Mauser.
And maybe .45-70. 10+1 rounds of .45-70, anyone?

So MOLOT makes a .30-06 VEPR. Very similar to the Super VEPR. Question is, are there 5 and 10 round mags for it, and will they import it?
