A friend had to back out of his hunting trip, now I have an opportunity to hunt a gemsbok. The biggest rifle I own is a .30-06 will this be enough? Shot placement trumps all, but would I be better off with say a .300 winmag or even a .375 HH? I would feel really bad telling my buddy I wasted his hunt by wounding and failing to recover an animal.
If I do need to go bigger I need suggestions for dealing with recoil

Looks like your 30-06 will do you, just pick the right load.
