OK,I just shot a bunch of round thru a buddy's m and p 9mm..I love it.It is the full size....my question is how different would the compact be?This had almost no recoil(as compared to my glock 17)and fit my hand perfect w/ the small back strap.Does the compact have the exchangable ones too?The g17 always felt big for my hands, although I shoot it great..when I shot the m and p it took no getting used too.I shoot it as accurate as my g17 and maybe a little faster.Mozambeke drills were dead on at like 5 yards.

how different would the compact be?
I've shot both. Depends on whether your hand likes smaller pistols. I like it with the mags that have the pinkie extension. It's a little uncomfortable with the flat base mags to me, but not a major thing. Performance is similar. If your fundamentals are solid you shouldn't have any noticeable difference in accuracy between the two.

Does the compact have the exchangable ones too?
Yep. Both come with the backstrap assortment.

Also, the compact will take fullsize mags FWIW. Not really handy unless you're in a situation where your carrying a fullsize as a primary, and a compact as a BUG, but I thought you might want to know.

Also FWIW I prefer the fullsize just because it's more comfortable for me to shoot. The compact would be a little easier to conceal.

I got the 9mm M&P compact for concealed carry and have also shot it at IDPA. Now carry a J-frame and thinking maybe I'd rather have the full size M&P for IDPA and as a house gun -- but had it at the range last week and still love how the compact feels and shoots!

I had an M&P 9c test fired 2007 and I had a couple problems that required me sending it back to them. First time around, the slide did not lock back on an empty magazine. Second time around it did not feed Federal HST 147gr properly so I had to send it back and they gave me a new barrel with a polished feed ramp.

A friend had an .40 compact, and after maybe 400 rounds of WWB it started not feeding those properly either too. He sent his in for a new polished barrel and will probably keep it.

I traded mine in for something else. Just my own personal experiences, take it for what it's worth, although I should add that on the M&P forums (google it) others have had similar issues.

I don't find my 9mm compact to have excessive recoil, even with the flat-base magazine that I have to wrap my little finger under.

I have both. I use the compact for carry and shoot the full size in USPSA.

The compact has a bit more recoil than the full size, but that's to be expected. I find it very manageable and much less severe than the Walther P99C and full-size P99 that I owned.

Personally, I carry the compact with the 12 rd mag (with pinky rest) and carry a full-size mag (17 rds) in my mag pouch. I bought one of the spacers that fills the gap perfectly. To be honest, it wouldn't even be that big of a stretch to carry with the full-size mag in the gun.

I definitely like the M&P platform. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need one of the new M&P 45C's for carry!

My S&W M&Pc in 9mm is a great little shooter. One of the best 'DA' triggers on a semi-auto I've encountered.

is it possible to pocket carry the compact?I pocket carry a Tauruspt111 sometimes now(it's the same size as a glock 26)

I own both the M&P .40 and M&P .40c. I love them both. While there have been a few issues, the benefits outweigh the problems. S&W has been very responsive and takes care of problems quickly.

I find that even in .40 S&W both full sized and compact handle felt recoil very well. In fact, it's the way the full sized tamed the felt recoil of the .40 S&W that really got my attention.

I have pretty average hands and I do not find that the compact feels much different in my hand than the full size. Like the full size, it fits your hand like a glove. S&W hot one out of the park with this one IMHO.

I bought both guns from friends, used, and my only regret is that I didn't get them in 9mm as it would be cheaper to shoot. IF the M&P9 Pro ever becomes CA legal, I want to pick one up.
