So I just went and got some 00 buck Magnum buckshot loads. My buddy said you cant put magnum loads through some shotguns so I figured I better make sure. It is a Maverick model 88 which, if you dont know, is basically just a Mossberg 500. I've got a 18.5" barrel on it.
Thanks in advance for your input. I would not know half of the stuff I know about firearms if it was not for this site.

Sure, you can shoot it, careful not to bloody your nose though. My brother keeps a Maverick in his truck toolbox for unexpected opportunities and it kicks like hell w/duck loads. Buckshot & slugs should be fun. No, I'm not a recoil sensitive weenie, my normal deer rifle is a .338. and mag duck loads don't bother me out of an 870 or 3.5 535, but there's something about that Maverick.

I run 3"Mag #4Buck as my HomeLand Security load in my Maverick 88.
I have added some lead in the butt stock cavity, along with a Pachmyer recoil pad.

(LOL) My huntng buddy's 16 yr old son learned his lesson that way on a duck/goose hunt. He had been used to using his dads 1100 with 2 3/4 " 1 1/4 oz BB loads. For Christmas he got a brand new Mav 88. I gave him a box of 3" 1 3/8 oz BB to try in his new gun. You can imagine the rest. First shot, his thumb about took his nose off. :)

"Reduced Recoil" 2 3/4" 00 Buck loads will work just as well, or probably much better.
Way less recoil beating the snot out of you, faster follow-up shots, and you can get one more shell in the mag.
