Hey guy. I think the Savage 99 is perhaps one of the truly ugliest non-military rifles of all time. That said, if I could find one at a reasonable price, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat!
Also, 300 Sav is a GREAT round...
possibly only made better by the fact that you can buy them almost anywhere. They might even have 'em at 7-11.
Classic rifle, classic cartridge, unending bullet choice for the reloader. You lucked out!

Classic rifle with near .308 power.

About the only bad thing I can say about them is, they are not very reloader friendly.

The rear-locking bolt springs enough to give a lot of case stretching, and brass doesn't last very long.

Before the advent of .308 in early 1950's, the 300 was often compared to 30-06 performance. Truthfully, the 300 Savage delivers same ballistics at 200 yards as 30-30 does at 100 yards. This is significant big game hunting power!
