i just bought a winchester classic stainless in .300wsm. i plan to hunt whitetails with it and maybe a black bear if the opertunity occurs. what would be the recomended bullet weight be for this round. i had a win mag and shot 180's out of it. i may try the 150's to see if they fly good at long distances(200-300 yds). those heavy bullets tend to tear up meat. any info would help me out. thanks!

Don't think that a deer is going to tell if it got shot with a 180 or 150 grain bullet and the wound channels will be very similar in size. Since deer are soft targets, might as well use the 150 grain bullets and take advantage of the flatter trajectory.

robert, i picked up a box of the 150 gr. ballistic silver tip loads. that should do the trick.

Jeff, I too purchased a 300WSM and used it all season last year with excellent results. I use the 150 grain ballistic Silvertips exclusively. I used the 180 grain powerpoints for a spell because I ran out of 150's, and found that they tend not to expand properly in smaller animals such as deer. The 150's are the perfect medicine for Va Whitetails and I plan to use them again this year.

last year my buddy smacked one in the neck from about 100 yards w/ a 150 gr. the hole on the opposite side was sickning. the skin actually burst and split back around the deers neck to the entrace. voodo stuff.
deer was DOA.
