They are legal for us serfs, but because of the import ban there aren't many in the country, so expect to pay a lot (almost as much as a Class III M-16 would cost you).

But by all accounts of those who have handled them they are Uber Nice and many have called the Sig 550 the best .223 "Assault Rifle" in the world.

Comrade Klinton permenantly banned the import of "non sporting arms" from most countries ... I'm not sure, but I believe he did this through various treaties (because some "Assault Rifles" are still imported from some eastern bloc countries) or maybe it was done by executive order (which I doubt our current RINO will overturn).


Even when then AWB sunsets there will be no import of Steyr AUGs, HK G3s, FAMASs, Sig550s or other "assault" weapons. :(

AUGs are banned by name under the AW ban of '94. I don't know about the others.

the Assault Weapons Ban came under Bush I, but the import ban was Clinton's.

Even after the AWB sunsets (cross fingers) the import ban will still be in effect.



Good news is that HK is building a plant in the US to get around it, I'd like to se SIG do the same thing and start building 550s and 551s here.

i know they are building the facility. but i thought what they were going to actually do there was still speculation. or have they announced it officialy and i have just not heard the joyous news. think they are hiring???:D
