Hey men, this night I've seen the movie "Hard Target" (in Italy the title is "Senza Tregua") with Jean-Claude Van Damme as protagonist. I didn't like the movie too much but I become curious by a particular gun used by the antagonist of the story (the character was played by Lance Henriksen): it's an enormous sigle-shot handgun and I'm sure it was a TC Contender (or Encore, in other words the one bigger), with 14" or 15" barrel, but I'm not been able to identify its caliber:  I know only that it's a very, really very big cartridge, like a .460 S&W in length but larger (.50 or .60 :what: ). Partners, do you know something more about? ... I've to know it! :D
Thanks

P.S. The movie has been shot in 1993

TC contender; I believe in 45-70

I don't know what caliber is used in the movie, but the simple fact that a T/C Contender is used at all in a movie has always given "Hard Target" a special place in my heart...

Here's mine, a 30-30...

No dubts about it's a great gun, markk. I've shot one in .460 and I've loved it in that moment. And I like your, in 30-30, but this one I'm speaking about is "just a bit" bigger.
Sean, I think 45-70 is too long and too small (caliber) to be that, but I don't know.
Other suggestions?

Fake movie props?

Is that the one with the sightless TC and the bullets that explode like a quarter pound of TNT?

If so, BigBlock has it right.

Do not depend on movies (or TV, or adventure novels) for firearms expertise.

It was a Contender in 45/70.

.45-70, and for the sake of realism he was definitely shooting 405 gr loads. I'd like to see anyone one-hand a Contender with a 300 gr load.:scrutiny:

I'm pretty sure that it was the .410 barrel- not the 45/70. It has a bead front sight.

Several times during the movie you see the shells, it's a 45-70 with no sights. That Lance can really shoot.

Lat sau san taam, another John Woo movie used the same T/C as Hard target but can't find any caliber mentioned. If somebody knows what they used in that movie you will have the answer for both.

However in my opinion is absurd to take part in a gun fight vs. automatic rifle and pistol, pump-action shotgun and semiauto Beretta and similar with a singe-shot pistol only, although with an anti-tank power!

You're telling me he was firing live ammo on a movie set?

Phooey.
