Which of these do you guys think Should I go for when I can get either?

I'm simply doing my Homework on what to buy after I move to I.D. next year...
(I do plan to get a CCW permit, but prefer fullsize guns...)

I'm a fan of the .45ACP Cal, but to tell the truth, I've never fired one...
so any info/comments/feedback will be usefull.

Here's my Current List.

[H&K MK23] I have allways liked this one, no idea why, however if I did get one I would try to get a NFA Set.
[DE .44 or .50 XIX] with it's optional barel lengths it seems it would be ideal for Pistol Hunting/Long Range Plinking.
[Sig P220s] nice and looks to be purposly designed for target shooting.

I'm not a big fan of Glock's, but if it was all I could get I think i'd go for the g21...

I voted Sig. Simply because they are very durable and reliable and they have a fair selling price unlike Desert Eagle and HK mark 23. I really dont care for glocks but really it comes down to what fits you best.

Good Luck
Nick:)

Well, Glocks feel like a toy to me, MK23's fit my had near perfectly, and I havn't got a clue about the DE or Sig.

I voted Desert Eagle, but I'd stick with .357 due to the inane cost of the larger calibers.

offtopic:
BTW the "keep our industries going" argument was proven to be utterly without merit even before Adam Smith. Let's do the world a favor and stop falling for it.

I wouldn't recommend a DE or MK23 if you are serious about using these for CCW. I woldn't recommend the DE for any self-defense situation. (unless you are a Russian mob enforcer)

The other two are still pretty big but easier to conceal.

If seriously deciding between a Sig P220 or a GL21, ask yourself this. Are you a serious gearhead, or are you more casual?

If gearhead, the Sigs would fit your personality.

If you are more casual about your life and tools, then the GL21 would be a better fit.

The two times I visited Idaho, I was surprised at how humid it was during the summer. Rust pevention might also be a factor for a carry weapon.

If you can conceal a DE or a MK23 then carrying any pistol would be a moot point. :what:

I'm not a fan of Glocks, but they have their uses and for CCW a smaller Sig maybe more suitable. The full size pistols would work well in cooler weather, but will be tough to hide in weather like this.

END

Buy the best no matter where its made. The best service pistols are not from the US. With the exception of certain 1911 makers I would take a Glock, followed by Sig, Beretta and HK well before any american company's service pistol. Defending my life is more important than nationalism.

First off, I never said I was going to use it for a CCW, I just said I was going to get a CCW Permit...

As for being a Gearhead, that prity mutch describes me...(not a tactical nut like skunk though...:p)
I do have a liking for Cusomisations of most things, and figure,
if you have something that works realy well, why not have it look as good as it works...:)
& I also have an addiction to high quality...(who dosn't?)

But, Like I said earlyer, right now i'm just doing my homework, I'm trying to get as much info on anything that I see & like, so I wont end up forking out the price of a used car for something I may end up not liking...:)

mainly because of the NFA statement....a suppressed .45 auto is a wonderful thing to have! Though I would prefer the Tactical or compact .45 myself!
For CCW? Those are large guns! But pick whichever of the .45's fit you hand best cuz the HK, Sig and Glock all have a rep for reliability and accuracy. As mentioned a good finish might be nice for a daily carry and working gun. HK and Glock take the lead there.
Desert Eagle? How did that get in there? Why did that get in there?

There is one real CCW-able gun on that list, one large duty auto, and two guns that scream "I play too many computer games!"

I'll let you figure out which is which. ;)

Zed, go to a rental range and check out which pistol you like. Buy several copies of this weapon and many mags.

Ask your buddies for holster recommendations and see if they will let you try them out. Get lots of training and buy ammo.:)

Might be kinda difficult where he lives... Maybe Scotland Yard would be sympathetic? :uhoh:

Umm.......I don't see a 1911 listed as one of the choices. If you are considering 45ACP. Go to a range and give a 1911 a try. I did a few years ago, promptly sold all my double action plastic wonderguns and never looked back.

My .02 cents.

I voted SIG P220 simply because its the most practical. And might I suggest the SIG P220ST? :D The Glock 21 is close and is even with the SIG if it fits your hand comfortably.

The DE and H&K are too "mission specific" but if you feel the need by all means.....

And yeah, I'd suggest trying out a 1911 as well. Although I wouldn't overphrase or overpraise it without knowing your likes and preferences.

I voted for the Glock but I'd also recommend the Beretta 92FS -- which you didn't include. It's not a .45 but just as accurate. Otherwise, the Cougar is available in a .45....

Unless you have your heart set on one of those options, I'd advise you take J Miller's advice to heart. One can never go wrong with a nice Kimber, for example.

Granted, I have many modern handguns made overseas, but those were specifically earmarked for purchase well beforehand. Whenever I'm in a "I need something new" mood, I always give US companies the first shot to convince me of what I want.

Tamara, I thought Zed was moving to Idaho (is that "I.D.")? I never been there (maybe with the new skul opening out that way) but I believe that is in the USA where those hairy-chested, rugged invidualists carry pistols sometimes.

Or, seeing all the bleating and hand-wringing in bear posts, maybe not?:uhoh:

In the Weapon Hating UK?:scrutiny:
Closest I get to even touching a gun here is Either an Airsoft or a Video Game....

I'm not there yet dude, not till early/mid next year at the earlyest anyway....

man I hate being stuck here.....:banghead:

back on topic, looks as if everyone seems to be saying to get a sig 220 it seems....
anyone know what price range they run? or what kind of coustomisations/aftermarket parts are avalable for them?
Also, is there any more than 7-8 round mags that you can get for thr P220? or even Pre-ban 12+rd mags?

Zed, so you don't want to wait until Idaho until you go to a range? O.K., do they have trains still over there? Train to Bern perchance?

You need to handle the weapons yourself to see what you like. One man's magic sword is another's hunk of useless metal.

Buy an American made gun. Keep our industries going.

You can buy the (German) Sig made in New Hampshire, the (Austrian) Glock made in Georgia, or the (Italian) Beretta made in Maryland. Just make sure you don't buy the (American) Springfield XD-9, because they are made in Croatia.
