I'm looking for suggestions on what my next shot gun should be. I own a Remington 870 and love it, but just looking for something new. I still want it to be a 12 gauge pump, but what else is out there under $400?

Well, You don't say if it is an Express or Wingmaster. If you have an Express, see if you can pick up a nice used Wingmaster. They are really a work of art.
A nice used Ithica 37 is something I have been looking for, or a Browning pump would be great also. I found an Ithica, but I couldn't get past the Cutts Compensator someone had put on it.

Just get different model 870, there are other great shotguns out there but they are not 870's.

The Benelli Super Nova would be nice.

+1 for wingmaster
If yours is already a wingmaster, you could get some new barrels to add versatility.
You could also buy some aftermarket wood and pretend its a new gun.

Yep, get a Winmaster if yours isn't.

Have you looked at the used market? I picked this beater Mossberg 500 up today (a private sale) for $150.

Get a Winchester 1300! A few can still be found new if you like or buy a used one. Great shotgun and fits in your budget.

Does it have to be new?
Why not shop around for a Winchester Model 12? It is a truly great gun. My neighbor bought one for $250.

As I was reading the replies to this thread I was wondering why no one had mentioned the Model 12. While staying inside a $400 budget may be somewhat limiting. There are deals out there. And you would have a functional piece of "American" history to pass on to your heirs. :)

Just bought the Mossy 535. It comes with 2 barrells, one 28 inch barrell with 3 chokes and one 24 inch rifled slug barrell with sights mounted on it. It`s chambered for 2 3/4", 3", or 3 1/2". I love the thing. Pick up a few boxes of the Hornady 2 3/4" BT slugs and baffle your friends with 200+ yard shots. LOL:p
OH! It cost $310.00 plus tax. That`s including both barrells.
