Where's the energy weapon forum?

Looking down the forum list, there's rifles, revolvers, those obsolete smooth-bored things, etc., but there's nothing that (technologically) couldn't have been made in 1898. Where's the laser forum? For that matter, where's the forum on Swiss militia weaponry? Even forty years ago, they had antitank rockets...

Seriously, when Americans were serious about their liberty they had more modern weapons than the government; US civilians had semi-autos 30 years before the Army. If the 2nd Amendment is limited to early 20th century devices, then it's a historical-society bylaw, not a Constitutional right. The first drone was shot down with a laser in 1974; there's people on this forum that weren't even born then.

That's a cool link. Thanks.

I don't know anything about energy weapons or what is available if anything. Magnetic, lazers, ect.

Sixty years ago, Germans and Americans were shooting at each other with antitank rockets.

It took the Swiss 20 years to catch up? Someone tell them to get better timepieces! ;)

I've got a friend who dabbles in energy weaponry, he's got microwave gun that'll cook a squirrel at about 150 feet and a laser that'll irritate crows.

How hard is it to work with these kinds of technology?

Illuminatis99, I need to talk to your friend. A gun that will fry a squirrel at distance would be painfully cool. How much energy is expended in the two devices he has?

This thread reminds me of Avery Brooks's (Capt. Sisko on DS9) commercial in 2000 about "Where is my flying car? This is the year 2000, we are supposed to have flying cars by now..." Anyone remember what the original firebird concept car looked like? Supposed to be the future of all cars.

Yep, I want one of them "finest energy weapons in the known universe" too. It would be nice not to have to calculate and pull lead when shooting at annoying aircraft.

illuminatus99 - my buddies and I talked about such a home defense device. It is aimed by infrared at an unwitting burglar. Fries them while they're in the house and by the time they get home, they're cooked. Of course you lose your loot but you can read about it in the papers under the headline about mysterious death of career criminal.

if I remember right the microwave gun is basically just an emitter from a microwave oven that is fired down a plexiglass waveguide, if you shoot a metal target it throws sparks and gets very hot very quickly, takes about 2 seconds to make a squirrel keel over with a fried brain, I imagine a 2 legged critter would drop just as fast. it's pretty unweildy though, it's powered by a car battery and inverter plus the thing is almost 4 feet long so it's not something that you'd want to lug around.

there was also this guy in high school who made a sonic weapon, essentially whenever he hit the button on it everyone in the room suddenly got an intense headache and feelings of nausea, unfortunately including the operator of the weapon.

whenever he hit the button on it everyone in the room suddenly got an intense headache and feelings of nausea,

well heck, most of us can manage that via built in bio weaponry

Some of us here in Denver are experimenting with rail guns and other electromagnetic widgets. I had a small rail gun that would toss a lead sinker across my garage, at one point, but didn't do much with it. The neat part is that the basic system can be ganged in series to greatly increace the velocity, and the whole thing will run off a 9V battery, if you don't mind a rather slow recharge time. To discuss this, or other stuff (compact toroids, conventional railguns, microwave weapons, etc), get into the discussion group at dmsc.org.
I thought the microwave would be usefull mounted in my trunk, with the waveguide routed out the back, like a hitch receiver, to be turned on in case of tailgaiters. I did not think that 500-750W would bother the driver of the car behind me, but his ECU would probably not like the high voltage transients. Should make his whole car go temporarily dead, hopefully before he turns on those annoying blue lights.
