Need a high quality polymer .40 S.W. combining what I like about my Sig (D.A./S.A. configuration, smooth ergs) and my GLOCK (light weight and bullet-proof finish). These two look the part (in A.S. and V3). I've handled the P2000 only, the clerk wasn't real interested so I didn't push him to let me try the X.L. backstrap on it, but that would probably be nice. Only negative with it is the price, and the fact I'd need to find flush fitting mag baseplates. HOw does the Walther stack up? I'm having trouble finding them with N.S., and not sure how to determine if I'm getting a German manufactured one or not (unless I see "M.I.G." on the frame in a G.B. auction I guess).

P2000-----P99
24oz------23oz...weight
7.1"-------7.2"....length
5.43"------5.3"....height
1.34"------1.3"....width
3.66"------4.17"...barrel
5.59"------6.29"...S.R.
12---------12......capacity

The thing I like about the P99 is the much better barrel length/S.R. to O.A. length ratio, but I do appreciate a visible hammer too. The SigPro P2022 would be NICE, but 7.4" O.A., 1.4" wide, and real heavy for polymer at over 30oz (P2000 is pushing it as it is at 27oz w/mag). Any other suggestions apart from Ruger and Taurus?

Longshot, but if anyone has both of these I would love to see a "backview" width compariosn pic. Any leads on a .40 S.W. P99 w/factory N.S. would be appreciated as well.

all new walther p99s are 100% german. there were a few, years ago, that had s&w slides and barrels. the american ones did not have the eagle over n proof mark on the slide. i have not shot the hk. the walther has the most felt recoil of any .40 i have shot.

Glad you mentioned recoil. I think I'd actually read that before about the P99, and dismissed it because you hear so many complaints about .40 S.W. in general. The fact that the P99 is nearly full-sized and more recoil than others you've tried in the same caliber is worth consideration.

Take a look at this video (http://video.aol.com/video-detail/heckler-and-koch-p2000-40-cal/1358555036) of the P2000, looks pretty mild for a .40 S.W. from how little it's snapping. But hard to tell by just watching of course.
