Signed your Ill. FOID card ?

I saw a new gun shop today on a trip to stock up on groceries, didn't have much time to spare but couldn't resist taking a look. Mostly used guns, some reloading supplies, I thought prices were average to a little high, so I will stop back when I have more time. I asked if I could check out a S&W 657 .41mag. "No problem I just need to see your FOID card." When I finally dug it out of my wallet, he said you need to sign it, it is invalid without your signature, and worth a $75 fine. You have to look at the right edge and in little tiny letters I could only read by holding it up to the light, there it was. Talked to a friend of mine later and he had never read it either. I am kind of courious how many others have not noticed? Jim.

I totally forgot about this, and now that you mentioned it, I’m surprised it hasn’t been discussed before. I think this has been in effect for about four years now (that’s how old mine is and it requires a signature). I’m not sure how many FOID owners know about this added twist. I know I had mine a year or better before my local shop informed me I needed to sign my card. I don’t remember who informed them (I think it was a trooper or some other LEO), but it didn’t come from Springfield.
Kind of sad this extra annoyance was added without informing the public. To my knowledge neither is it on the renewal/application form nor any paperwork when you get your new card.

Kind of sad this extra annoyance was added without informing the public It sounds like it goes beyond annoyance. That sounds like a case of full blown harassment.
Call in the dogs, and get the ACLU involved.
And no, I'm not kidding. Despite the ACLU's weenie stance on RKBA, they should be sympathetic to an abuse of power like this.

I was on the phone with the director of the Il State Police Firearm division back in Feb 03 when I was having my own FOID headaches and While I was polite and firm, so was Capt. Scott Jakobi(?). It was obvious to me that we were on oposite sides of the fence. Me- law abiding citizen with rational objections. He- bureaucrat that truly believes his biggest problem was lack of adequate funding so that they could do more of what they do best. He was proud of the vast numbers of criminals who have been denied access to guns +/or ammo. He believes in this FOID insanity and thinks more states should adopt this system. IL has had this nonsense since 1967- ample time to prove its value or folly IMO.
My new card does not have any signature req that I can see. Did have to sign the cursed app tho.
BTW, in Feb 03 the FOID application process had a backlog of over 15,000 apps. (after calling 2 state reps, 2 state senators, and the guvs office, mine was processed almost efficiently)

Well, I had to sign mine after I first got it, gosh, many years ago. A little tiny line on the right edge of the card by your picture with a little small print saying sign here after you receive the card. I didn't see it myself, but my dealer pointed it out to me. I have to renew before December. I will be interested to see what the new "rules" are.

brad,
I suggest you get your app in now. Dec is hunting season and you wouldn't want to get hung-up with an expired card in your pocket and an renewal app in the s...l...o...w machinery in Springfield.
