Walkalong July 28, 2008, 02:42 PM Why the HELL should I have to press 1 for English Because 2 will get you Spanish. :neener: JHP. I just figure it should expand better and dump more energy in the target. FLoppyTOE July 28, 2008, 02:58 PM JHP. I just figure it should expand better and dump more energy in the target. I second that. ds/ks July 28, 2008, 03:15 PM 125gr HP=96% one shot stops Bezoar July 28, 2008, 04:52 PM however the 125 gr jsp has a better BC to it, and will have a flatter trajectory at longer ranges. And will most likely prove to have a bit better penetration on furry stuff. FEG July 28, 2008, 04:58 PM however the 125 gr jsp has a better BC to it, and will have a flatter trajectory at longer ranges. And will most likely prove to have a bit better penetration on furry stuff. It also won't overexpand on impact at top velocities and cause a superficial wound. JHPs only work in a certain velocity window. Too slow, and they don't expand. Too fast, and they may fragment on impact. The figure I usually see for the "window" is 1,000 - 1,800 fps. It is possible to safely exceed 1,800 fps with a 125 gr bullet in .357 Magnum. FEG July 28, 2008, 05:04 PM Double post The Lone Haranguer July 28, 2008, 10:50 PM I assume this is for defense against two-legged predators? ;) The JHP. Most of the revolver JHP bullets on the market have a lot of exposed lead at the tip and a wide, deep cavity (bullet shape is irrelevant in a revolver.) Between this and the velocity*, they are almost guaranteed to expand and tear an even bigger hole, whereas the JSP deforms or upsets very little. Even if the JHP doesn't expand, it is still no worse than the JSP. *Some 125-grain factory loads are a medium velocity. These still have much merit, as full-power loads have quite a kick and roar to them. Steve C July 29, 2008, 12:50 AM I carry load and shoot JHP's from my revolvers and use JSP in my Rifle. At the 2000+ fps you get a 125gr bullet leaving a rifle, the jhp's fragment with little penetration. machinisttx July 29, 2008, 01:22 AM The 125 grain semi jacketed hollow point, along with the same type of bullet in the 158 grain weight are what made the .357 such a good stopper. Either of those two bullets will expand violently upon impact, as well as fragmenting and creating multiple smaller wound channels. I carry 125 grain semi jacketed hollow points in all of my .357 defense guns for exactly that reason. I don't really see the point in all this bonded bullet, high weight retention stuff. The more stuff that bullet destroys, the more stuff there is to bleed. If the perp dies before the ambulance gets there...he shouldn't have been doing whatever it was I shot him for anyway. Area 52 July 29, 2008, 03:29 AM Neither. I plan on using FMJ rounds just in case the BG has a vest on.
