I have inherited an old civil war officers dress sword. It is pretty good shape, just a little rusty in parts. Does anyone know of a good trustworthy sword restoration guy? The sword could be worth about a grand and i would like to keep it in the family for a while.

Oh man I'd love to have something like that! I would seek professional restoration for sure but but don't know anyone myself. Being in KS there might be people knowledgable about CW stuff that could help you.

You'll have to figure out how to contact them, but there's a place called "The Horse Soldier" in Gettysburg. If they can't do it they'll know who to contact.

I would also contact The Smithsonian for additional referrals of other museums, and restoration professionals near you as well.

Museums have a network of persons as often times when artifacts and works are on tour, they need to be maintained and have emergency plans in case something happens while on tour.
