I'm going to reload for a .40 XD sub compact. I've got everything but bullets and powder. I think I'd like to start out with FMJ bullets before I try lead. What is a good cheap FMJ bullet to start with and what powder do you use. I'm looking to make cheap plinkers on my Lee turret press.

I like lead prices but I'd like to run a batch of 500 or so FMJ for my first try to get comfortable with the process.

I'm also going to load for .223 eventually, is there a powder that works well for both?
I've searched the forum, but honestly, the more I look the more I get confused. I just need to buy something and get started. I just want to make sure what I get will work and not throw me a curve ball.

Thnx
Ducker

I just saw some on sale. I think it was Natchezss.com.

Pistol powder is for pistols , rifle powder is for rifles. They don't interchange well. Get a manual or two. I use W-231 for the fourty and H-322 for the .223. There are probably ten different powders that will work in each but not both. Everyone has their favorite.

Oh yeah, buy a manual, or three and read carefully.

Be safe and have fun.

Smokeless powders are categorized "slow to fast". This USUALLY goes hand in hand with barrel length/case volume. Your .40 has a 4 or 5" bbl, your .223 has a 16-24" bbl.As Old Gold said, get a manual or three, and READ UP.
