I just watched the cops episode that came on Thursday night 8/28. It showed a cop who just got finished doing a high speed chase, and while they were still on the scene, he gets a call on a cell phone from his wife that she heard someone trying to break into their house, and she had locked herself in the bathroom. conversation kinda went like this:

officer: "Ok, lock yourself in the bathroom, you got your pistol?"

wife: "yeah"

officer: "ok, make sure it's loaded. keep the door locked"

wife: "ok"

officer: "Remember, keep your finger off the trigger unless you're going to shoot"

He stayed on the phone with her till a cop responding to the call got there...which was VERY fast. Man, I can't imagine having a loved one on the phone while someone is trying to break in, but I bet she was damn glad she had that pistol. Made me glad to own a pistol myself now. But my gf won't touch the pistol with a 10ft pole, not even to find out how it works. I told her the gun is gonna be useless to her if someone broke in, but of course she doesn't think break-ins would happen in an apartment. Glad I saved this episode of Cops, I'll have to show it to her. Kinda frustrating that other people out there don't consider using/owning a gun for home self defense until it is too late and something happens to change their mind :/

Now if they would only show a similar situation where a civilian (ie not a LEO's spouse) armed herself, dialed 911 and the police/emergency operator told her the exact same thing, that would be real progress.

things like that make me glad to have a gun-friendly wife, we had an incident a couple years ago where she got scared enough to grab the shotgun, she was one the phone with 911 with shotgun in hand, still never understood why she had also grabbed one of the swords.........came home to my wife sitting on the couch with the shogun in her hands and a 3 pound broadsword across her lap

I don't know about your town, but in mine, the local police will give you an annual report on crimes committed in your zip code. It could be an eye-opener for her.

It will be easier to take her shooting then touching your gun.

It's non-of my business but are you sure you want to be courting a woman like that?
