If a jake turkey is a 1-year old in the spring, does it look mostly full-grown in the previous fall or does it look like a juvenile? Does it have any beard in the fall, or look like a hen? Or what? For that matter, what does a 0.5 year old hen look like in the fall? Thanks.

I don't have an answer, but I spent an hour earlier today scouring the 2008 game regs for useful info and changes.
Looks like I'll be chasing crows here in a few weeks and doves shortly after.
Can't wait for summer to be over. Love it. :)

they will have a small beard but haven't dropped in the neck area much...imagine and wide breasted hen, darker with a stub beard.
There are groups of 20+, 30+ and one group of 50+ (made up mostly of youngsters, of course) within about 1/3 of a mile from my home. We are overrun with them this year.

Some of the Jakes in fall will have visible beards, some just little nubbs. They'll usually be about 10 lbs (+/- 1-1.5 or so). They will appear darker than the hens, more black colored. The Jennies will be a bit smaller, usually 7-8 lbs and and lighter colored, more brown than black.

Shawnee, I hate you officially now. I hunted hard this last spring and got no turkey.
