if you could pick one place to stay and hunt for the rest of eternity what would yours be?
imagine a place where its just you and the animals you dont have to worry about people trespassing

mine would be hunting the rockies on horse back

Home state of Missouri... Quail are making a return in some areas, deer are everywhere, and I love to squirrel hunt.

No way I'd live there, no electricity, no roads, no anything and a hurricane magnet. Only access is by water "long boat ride" or air. But, heaven is the land cut area of Padre Island on the canal side. The duck hunting is just amazing, best in Texas for sure and I'd boast best in the US, though I've not tried hunting anywhere else. I'm sure there are places that are as good. They have to be totally amazing, though. However, there's a lot of logistics getting down there. There is legal deer hunting there, but all the deer run up into the national seashore during the season, off limits, so it's hit and miss. I'd just wanna be there for the ducks. Oh, the fishing's great, too. :D

I do like to squirrel hunt. Would miss that on the island, no trees, let alone squirrel. LOL

How's the flooding?

I was planning a trip there with a friend who grew up there and still has family and a house there. However, he said that the deer season seemed likely to be canceled for the year due to massive flooding of the deer habitat, so we quit making plans.

Has this improved?

Somewhere never hunted, never pressured, never poached.

I've only found a place like that once, and I fear I will never find another.

Your friend got misinformed somewhere along the line. Deer season is at the regular time this year, although they switched some dates to give rifle hunters a little more weekend.

I recently drove up high 79 which pretty much follows the River from STL to Hannibal, and while there was some damage, it wasn't that bad. There is still a lot of standing water close to the river, mainly on bean fields. Most small towns still have bags stacked because there is no one to remove them :uhoh:

I saw a few pictures of deer and frogs escaping the floods, but as far as I know, things will be back to normal this fall. There might be a few conservation areas closed, but I doubt it.

Missouri has one of the best Conservation Department in the country with tons of Public land accessible. If you make it up here, try some of the more remote Northern areas or even the areas along HWY 70, in Callaway County. Managed hunts are also a good way to get access. If you want to beat the crowds, do a muzzle loader season hunt or the Antlerless.

One things for sure though, Duck Hunting is going to be awesome this winter. It has been raining like crazy, and we have had a few days with 5 inches of water!

Have to be the mountains, where doesn't matter as long as its below the timberline and heavily forested.

I'm actually not too particular, though I'd prefer mountains/hills with revines, and in an area that hasn't already hit winter temperatures by Thanksgiving!

Probably somewhere in VA or PA, if you could soak all the people.

British Columbia, and while we're waving the magic wand, make it part of the US with Alaska's gun laws (think annex Yukon & BC). :)

Hunting without having to go to work on Monday, and keep hunting. It would be a dream of mine to someday hunt everyday during the season without having to stop. Doesn't matter where, just as long as I can get out as much as possible.
