Has anyone actually owned a COLT Double Eagle? I would like to know how it would hold up to regular use.
I have been offered one at a reasonable price. I shot one many years ago and liked it, but do not know how durable they will be.

It is a Mark II version.

Only negative reports I have heard on the DE was that the 10mm models "MIGHT" not stand up to prolonged use. Other that there was a recall about the decocker IIRC or something that was similar and had no real effect on longevity of the gun. The 10mm however is the real collector item in the DA as very few were made, something like couple of hundred or less. I would buy it in a heart beat and if a 10mm at anything under $1000 you are getting a deal and 45's are not too far behind. These are slowly being bought up by collectors and will soon not be seen on the market for any kind of a reasonable price you would want to pay for a shooter.

Let me know what you do and the price as I am interested in the gun if you pass.

I have two, one with only a few hundred rounds through it and one I picked up that has been shot a bunch. The older one shoots great and is my wife's favorite .45. I don't see any major reason they wouldn't last as long as a 1911. It's a unique piece, and I say go for it.

I carried a Double Eagle in .45ACP through the academy and for the first 5-6 years of being deputy sheriff

Never a problem with it... Still have it.
