Find someone to serve as a mentor.

Take a hunter safety course, buy a license and have at it.

What do you want to hunt and where in IL are you located?

Find an older friend maybe a grandfather or a other older friend that is familier with the laws. Then get signed up for a hunters saftey course and get your license. The most important thing is to be legal game wardens can really ruin your day. when you take your hunters safety course your instructor can be areally big help to you. Mine was a neighbor of mine and I never even new that he did things like that. Read a lot on hunting I read every thing I could get my hands on. It helps you out a lot when you actually know what your talking about.:D

contact your local Nation Wild Turkey Federation(NWTF) chapter, and any local whitetail organizations. They generally will have a well organized youth/mentor program for youths just like you. The NWTF has a special youth/mentor hunt here that is the week before the regular spring turkey season and gives new youth turkey hunters a chance at hunting without others in the field. I too suggest you sign up for a hunter safety program as most states now require completion of one before you can hunt at any age.
