Misfire by Remington 8 mm Mauser ammo

Hello all. Newbie here so I'll get to the point.

Went to the range to shoot an 8 mm Mauser. Had two remaining Winchester rounds that fired without a problem (as did the previous ammo in the box). Proceeded to load the Remington Core-Lokt 8 mm Mauser rounds that I purchased at local Gander. I had two consecutive misfires. Both rounds had nice pin indentations. Anyone else have similar issue with 8 mm Mauser ammo?

Also, I did notice a significant difference in that the Winchester rounds were more pointed; Remington rounds were more blunt. Because of the latter, I think it contributed to some of the difficulty in chambering through the throat of the barrel.

Thanks in advance for the input.

jfe_phd,

I have not had any problems with mis-fires in any of my Mausers using either Winchester or Remington commercial ammo.
Possibilities are: difference in primer hardness, weak firing pin spring, or not enough firing pin protrusion.

You did not say what flavor your Mauser is, but they were designed to feed pointed bullets. Depending on the OAL of the round, round nose bullets can sometime cause feeding problems, especially in an intermediate action like a Yugo, as round nose bullets feeding from the left side tend to nose into the extractor cut in the right side of the breach.

Rem,will say its because of the primer being what they call.a hard primer.so even the factory guys can't control all the primers, some bad ones get past,
I had that happen to me a few times, while hunting,I sent the rest back to the factory, and they said,sorry..heres a new box,
