Here is a Spyderco 52100 Mule that I rehandled in textured Tan G-10 with black liners. Have I said how much I like the Mule's!

I also built a multi position Kydex sheath for it.

Thanks!

Tom

Very Cool Tom...completes the 'package' in my opinion. Do you offer re-handling as a service?

Discontinuing the Mule is another one of those  decisions knife companies make. Like Benchmade's decision to discontinue the AFCK models :fire:

Huh? Do you mean Spyderco stopped the Mule program?

Well, I may have 'jumped the gun'. It says: DISCONTINUED but then it clarifies it by saying something about releasing a 'new' model every six months based on the same blade pattern but offered in "exotic steels" and limited to 600 pieces.

So, what the means to me "a blue collar collector" (er...former blue collar collector...) is that they'll probably be pricy which means they won't get used which means...

Here's the deal.

Spyderco makes a limited run of these things at somewhere between a minimal profit to a loss. The point is to let knife nuts try out different steels with identical thicknesses and grinds. The first ones, in 52100, went for an incredible (incredibly low) price.

I think we have similar ideas about some things, only you have way more Grecos than I.

Hm...

Tom,
Very Nice!
I also have a Spyderco 52100 Mule, and I wuz hoping someone would do a sheath as you have done!
Now I know who does one! *yep*

I have this personal thing, as some know, like Tom, John, hso and a few others, about all metal knives for certain tasks.
Mule, Becker-Necker, Dogfish, Marbles Bird/Trout and some customs over the years I left all metal, for certain tasks.

I really like what you did Tom, that really looks nice, and the sheath completes the package!

I can be talked into doing rework.... :)

Cool thing about the Mule program is they are a DAMN good price. I picked up one from them for $35.00!!

Yeah, they are a good value.

You just have to pay attention to get one!

That's a good looking knife made better looking, IMHO.

:o (embarrassment...)

Wow-$35?

I've only seen them listed on ebay, and they sometimes get listed at $100! Which, for something rather basic seemed high to me. Last three auctions went for $61 (factory second-blemished), $91, and $80.

Never new they started out so inexpensive...

Still, great treatment on a great looking blade, Tom.

Demand drives the secondary market. There should be a new Mule coming out soon. IF you can get it from Spyderco they are very reasonable!

They are super thin and have an amazingly good edge geometry. They should cut like a light saber. I don't have one as one of my good friends wanted mine and I let him have it....

I plan on getting a couple in the next batch.

Thing is, you'll have to be watching. The original concept was that a few forumites would probably be the ones buying them, and by buying the exact same blades in different blade steels they'd be able to learn about how the steel changed the knife. But it looks like they're going to be more popular than anticipated. I would say at least some people who bought the 52100 will miss out on the next one.
