Anyone here use them, if so, which ones, and how well do they work?

I tried one once, it worked great! In fact, it worked so well that on opening day my hunting buddy emptied his whole magazine into it! :neener:

Hi,
I've been thinking of trying one.
It will either bring deer in or keep me entertained with all of the bullets flying at it.
Have a great day!

Never used one. Don't have a need for one. The distances I normally take shots at in the thick woods around here don't seem to make decoys practical. If I hunted where shots were presented that were out of my range I think a decoy could possibly be usefull to bring the deer in a little closer. But, like I think others are saying, if I used them where I hunt I would need an armored treestand to stay safe!

A deer decoy sounds like "tempting Fate" to me.
Read a story once in the York Dispatch (Pennsylvania) about a "deer hunter" who actually showed up at a deer check-in station with a Holstein calf he'd shot. :banghead: When they're that inept I wouldn't use one even on private land.

I like to try using one, problem with them is that all the other stuff I have to drag out to my stand,Bow,back pack, sometimes my tree stand,if I take it to anew spot,

I was never a big advocate of using deer decoys...I rather just go out the old fashioned way!

In Idaho, the Fish Cops use them to temp "hunters" to shoot from a roadway and then cite them for doing so. The decoys are set relatively close to county roads in the rural areas and then are monitored much the same way as "Speed Traps" are on highways and streets. I watched 2 "slob hunters" jump out and empty 2 rifles into a decoy as the empty beer cans were rolling out of the pick up doors. Driver cited for DUI and both for shooting from roadway. Everything confiscated and heavy fines and jail time on a number of charges. MMMMMMMMGOOD!!!!!!

I think using a deer decoy during a gun season might get you shot at. Lots of idiots out there running around with firearms calling themselves deer hunters.
I've thought about using one for bow season to get a buck interested and not looking at me during the rut.
I'll be bow hunting on private land that is pretty secluded from trespassers but I wouldn't be surprised if I see one while I am in the stand.

We used an old Deer decoy/archery target on the side of the road to get drivers to slow down on this big hill in the neighborhood where I grew up!
It worked well in that situation!

That's almost as good as the story of the guy who checked in his cow elk (it was a horse).

That's perfect - what you want! It's called a diversionary tactic - the idgits shoot at your decoy, and run out of ammo, so they can't shoot YOU!!

Heard a story about an ol' boy who saw one of the game warden's trap decoys, set up on valid hunting land during season, trying to catch road hunters. Expensive mechanical decoy, too, that moves the head. Ol' boy grabs his rifle, and walks a good ways off the road and proceeds to empty about 10 rounds into the decoy. No violation. Waves at game warden on way out. :)

That would be the way to do it, but some "hunters" get a load of 12 ounce group tighteners behind their belt and its jump out and shoot!
