Quickload

I have seen Quickload mentioned here and have seen the demo they offer. How good is the software...the demo is horrendous for trying to figure out how well it works...most of the features I want to examine are turned off. At $150 a copy I want some assurance that it will work for me. I have Lee's Shooter. It is ok but it has its limitations as well

Win52D,
There's not a whole heck of a lot of interior ballistics programs out there. That being said, the product has a good reputation and is extremely helpful when using components other than what there is established load data for.

Some one just recommended this:
http://www.loadammo.com/
I just posted the link. I have not even looked at the site yet. I have no clue what it does or does not do.
The guy that told me about is mainly a rifle shooter. He did say the trajectory calculations were pretty accurate.

QuickLoad is invaluable. You'll make up its price in skipped "experiments" and 1 or 2-lb bottles of powder with 20-rounds-worth used before you gave up and went to a different powder.

Quickload is good stuff.
I have just begun playing with it.. and am still trying to figure out things like Case fill % versus Powder Burn % versus Barrel travel time.
Will be shooting off the first loads acutally developed using QL tomorrow.

I've been using Quick load for a few months. It has a good inventory of brass, powders and bullets. The tests I made for my existing loads have been very close. It is bundled with Quick Target for working those drop tables.
The only data I wish it supplied is something on barrel harmonics. If it has it, I haven't spotted it yet.
I, like you, started looking long before buying a BC. Quick Load comes highly recommended on forums like this one. I'll put my money on 'non-professional' reviewers any day.

"Load from a disk' uses the older Powley method and is not nearly as accurate as QuickLOAD.
I even have an old Powley computer around somewhere.
QuickLOAD is very accurate if you supply good inputs (case volume, etc.) and if you have a chronograph it is even possible to adjust it to match individual powder lots and rifles.
You still need at least a 'rationality check' on the loads, but unless you get way off the beaten path it is very accurate and useful.

Ok...I'm convinced...I just didn't want to lay out that kind of cash for a program that I can't beforehand. The demo configuration is useless to me as I don't own a .30 cal

Do you have something you want run?
I love quickload because it allows me to play with concepts. It can also be tuned to your guns and I find the predictions pretty accurate once you get it tuned in.
My only complaint is I wish we had more powders available.

I have QuickLoad and Load From a Disk. Quickload has LFD beat hands down.
LFD is still listing everything in CUP. Nothing more confusing than trying to run a test with a modern cartridges listed in PSI when LFD is talking CUP. Junk! Get Quickload!

Guys, do you have any experience with QuickLOAD and Shot start pressure parameter if I put the bullet to lands. Somewhere in internete I have read it should be changed from default (3600) to 5000-6500psi.

Dan,
You need to change the pressure if your loads are either touching the lands or seated into the lands.
See the manual for more detail.

How does it do with low pressures? I have a need to load a series of 5.56cartridges in 100fps increments or so, from 800 fps to 3500 fps.
Will it make powder suggestions?

Yes it does make suggestions on powders and gives you predicitions on load velicoties ranging from -10% to +10% and everything can be tweaked.

The manual is on the CD. You could also look for it in the install folder. Typically c:\bin\quickload\ql_eng.pdf

Thanks Afy, I got it.
I found some info. There is written, if bullet touches the rifling you should add to default 7200psi, what means 7200+3600, this is really huge change when I have a look at result of the calculation of QL.
Afy, do you reload your ammo with touching of lands ?
