Does anyone have experience with either Lauer or AGI brand Maganese solution Midway offers?

I'm going to order my 1911 sights from them, and would like to put the solution on the same order instead of ordering it from Brownells.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I've used the Lauer and been pleased with the results. Here's a grip safety I did with it:

I use the Magnanese Phosphate Parkerizing from Brownells and love it. Is supposedly the original formula from the guy that invented the stuff. I am using the same batch for over 10 years now, and just keep adding new solution and water to the mix when it gets low.

Why don't you mix up your own solution? I did and the results were amazing. I re-Park'ed this entire Enfield:

Here's a link to the recipe and procedure:

I got my manganese off eBay. I didn't even bother stripping the remaining old Parkerizing off the Enfield. Once you get the mixture whipped up, you can Parkerize parts very quickly and easily.

Well it seems that no one has anything bad to say about any brand.

I'll go ahead and buy what ever from either Midway or Brownells, results will soon follow and I'll post some picks of how it came out.

The only real problem is getting a variation in color depending on the metal. Meaning that you can get some metal that comes out a grey color and other metal that comes out almost charcoal black.

To eliminate this problem, I use a pre-black solution prior to actually phophating. This procedure ensures a that a uniform black color is achieved.

I have also used just the phoshpate solution on some metal parts and used the pre-black on other to achieve a two-tone effect.

The current color is a medium/dark grey. I think it's a dark Zinc park as it doesn't look like a light charcoal black, if you understand what I mean. So I would think the metal will turn out black it thats my intention.

I can use a pre black with managese solution?

I also want my finish more onthe matte almost rough side, to match my AR.

What blast media and course grit should I use?

Pic's or your job and type of media used would help in ym decision.

Many thanks to all.

Well, I'm about to pull the trigger on my Midway order (Brownells doesn't seen to have any of the other items I want in stock) And I'm going to be usinng the AGI brand.

What exactly is the pre-blackener called? Do I need it?

I purchased my phosphate and pre-black from RPB (makers of the M-11). There're out of business now but I still have a good supply of their product.

When I run out, I will buy Brownell's...
