Styer Scout in Bosnia

I was watching a show on one of the History channels the other night, the topic being the war in Bosnia. While a line of troops in berets and cammies was marching past I noticed one of the troops was carrying a Styer Scout at port arms as he went by. I seem to remember awhile back seeing a still shot of someone carrying one over their shoulder, but I dont remember if they were part of this group or what they were wearing, so I dont know if its another sighting or if its the same boy and rifle. Anyone else catch this? I'm assuming its a personal arm rather than an issue rifle as no one else seemed to have one. Unless he took it off someone. I take it Styer is selling them around the world, rather than just catering to the US shooters.

Steyr-Mannlicher is based in Austria. Austria is located right next to the former Yugoslav Federation (Bosnia, Croatia, Yugo., Montenegro, Macdonia, etc.)
Steyr supplies firearms to many countries around the world for military, police and private ownership. Steyr scouts have been supplied as precision weapons to several military units in Europe.
Wouldn't be very surprising to see any Austrian or German weapons there.

I read a book called "My Jihad" about an American who converted to Islam.
He traveled to fight the Russians in Afghanistan, Chechnya and protect other Muslims from ethnic cleansing in the Balkans.
He knew a fellow whose relative(also a Muslim) was living in the US during the war. The Scout was just released and his relative in the US sent him one because he thought it was a cool gun and the rebels needed all the guns they could get.
The book was very interesting and provides an American Muslims perspective on the events leading to 9/11.
Definitely worth a read.

Are you sure it wasn't footage of Kosovo?
The Bosnian war ended in 1995 with the Dayton peace acccord. Kosovo started in earnest in 1998-9 (97 if you look at the first UCK raids on police). Were the Steyr Scouts available in 1995?
I've seen a photo of a Scout user in Swiss Alpenflage in Kosovo.
I can confirm that they used ANYTHING they could get their hands on in Bosnia.

I'm pretty sure it was Bosnia. Thats not saying they didnt use some film from some other time and/or place for the show. I'm not sure when the Styer Scout made its appearance.

I think Steyr Scouts were introduced in the USA (Jeff Cooper package) in 1998, but they could've been issued earlier to military/police units prior to this since LEO/military contracts are more important than civvie contracts.
The Swiss did indeed arm some units with Steyrs. Seems like a reasonable precision rifle for mountain troops to field.
