Bowling For Columbine
Holy crap was this ever a good film. For those of you who don't know, this is a film by michael moore, a well known activist/film maker/ super smart individual. Anywho, its based around the gun problem that America has and the school shootings. This movie is so smart and exposes so many people that you have wanted to see get it for so long. It is great. If you have the chance to see this movie, DO IT! He interviews some of the last people anybody would have thought to interview. And its brilliant. See it.

The part of the film where he got the gun at the bank for buying a CD? That was MY bank, not 300 yards from where I sit as I type.
Glad to see I'm not the only nighthawk. (or crawler). I'd have a hard time sleeping anyway, with my suitemate and his girlfriend going at it.
*sigh* College dorms can be fun sometimes.
Anyways, yes, at my bank, if you buy a CD of a certain value (I wanna say $5000) you get a Weatherby bolt rifle or over/under shotgun. You still have to go through the NICS check and everything, of course, but somehow I think Mr. Moore left that out of the film.

My understanding of that situation was also that they didn't give the gun to you at the bank, but rather a voucher to be redeemed at a local FFL.
Correct?

I'm unsure. If we really wanted to know, I could go to the bank on Tuesday and ask...

The documentary "Innocents Betrayed" was to be released in May.
Everytime I hear of "Bowling", I have to look at my watch and wonder when the hell will the JPFO be finished already.
Im planning on making dozens of copies to be passed out to teachers and students....someday. :(

Anybody want to take bets its Michael Moore tooting his own horn. The internet and message boards are such anonymous places.

Though Moore is not above being a self-aggrandizing twit- *look at me, I'm so blue collar!*
I think that there are enough misinformed people out there who are more than thrilled to toot his horn for him. (God knows I've met my share...)
Nightcrawler, that'd be mighty swell of you to waltz across the street and confirm whether or not they really were giving the rifles out in the bank or not.

It is my understanding that they do not. However, an exception to this was made by the bank's (former?) vice president of marketing who believed it would create "good publicity" for the bank in a movie.
Moore took wholesale advantage of the bank's good faith in typical Hollywood fashion.

When ever I talk about guns on irc, some foreigner always brings up bowling for columbine. When I seen it, I wasn't into guns to much and It didn't turn me anti gun or even think about being anti gun, only made me think about the media(which I think the point of movie was).
And he didn't leave the background check out, http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/media/clips/index.php number 3.

I know for a fact that they did give them away at some point. They'd have the rifle and the shotgun hanging on a display rack in the bank lobby (cablelocked down, mind you) with a sign that said something like "Open a CD, win a Weatherby". This was at both the Marquette and Calumet branches.
They may have stopped after "Bolwing for Columbine".
Tell you guys what. Tuesday I'll take time out of my busy schedule (I mean, I have to get up very early, with my first class being at noon) and trot over there to see what the scoop is.
*whew* College can be rigorous sometimes. You know I had to take both a psychology class AND a geography class to complete the math/science requirement for my major? That's harsh.

Even Oprah was suckered into believing this morons lies. I can only wonder how many well meaning people will actually believe that pile of roadapples because Oprah recommended it.

Why did it have to be a Weatherby ? I mean, talk about gaudy and tacky, and California bad taste! What's wrong with a very plain-looking, dully-finished rifle from Winchester or Remington or somebody,as long as it puts all its shots close together regardless of barrel temperature?
Y'know, now that I think about it, what we have here is CLASS resentment being stirred up by Mr. Moore. It's perfect! He being a prole and resentful, he always wanted the cool rich-guy toy, not realizing that rich guys can have bad taste too!
Edit: I believe the cognoscenti say that Savage makes the most-accurate po' folks' rifle.:)
