I found this on the Beretta website. It reminds me of an Italian version of a 1911. Don't know from Beretta when the gun will be available.

"The new Beretta Steel-I is the synthesis of the long-standing experience of the model 92, manufactured in well over two million units and reconfirms Beretta’s attention to steel framed semiautomatic pistols. Designed with extreme care to detail, the Steel I pistol is created with the true connoisseurs, the expert marksmen and collectors in mind. The Beretta 92/98/96 Steel-I are available in 9mm x 19 Parabellum, 9mm x 21 IMI and .40 caliber, in the traditional single/double action or, on request, in a single action only version. The Beretta Steel-I pistols are qualified to compete in the IDPA competitions."

The 9mm is available too, as I was buying my .40 another fellow was buying one in 9mm.

The .40S&W I have is a fantastic shooter, great trigger, with low recoil. A tad pricey but steel framed guns are getting scarce. I'd likely pickup one in 9mm if I found one at the same or less than I paid for mine in .40S&W:

When I got mine last year the dealer said they were "close outs" and "they'd have had a winner at the close out price, but for $1700 MSRP they never caught on".

If they are still being imported for sale at the $900-$1000 price point, they might fill a niche, as I said, I'd pick up one in 9mm as although I start to balk whenever a handgun gets above $700-800 this is one clear exception.

they were a limited edition run from 2004-2006. Good solid guns. Quite a few of them are used in competition as thats what it was designed for. Saw one at a gunshopp for ~$700. I should have bought it as they can be a few more bills than that.
