I have owned both, and find the G26 to be more consistently accurate in my hands. I don't blame the XD; I blame me. That stated, whichever I fire best is what I need to carry. For me, the G26. Try it before you buy it.

In my opinion, you would be making a mistake to not at least give Smith & Wesson's M&P9c a chance in there as well.

M&P's are sweet shooting guns. Awesome trigger reset. I would take an M&P over an XD any time. Glocks, abuse them and love them, they go bang every time.

I don't like the short little grip on any of these compacts. I want a hand full of grip when I'm holding the gun. It's not that much harder to conceal the grip on a non-compact.

The glock shot better for me.

August 4, 2008, 12:33 PM
I liked the XD's feel better, fit my hand a little better than the baby glock. I'm also a huge fan of the grip safety.

August 4, 2008, 06:21 PM
I rented both these guns. I knew I wanted a 9mm and I wanted a small enough gun to conceal carry.

I shot both and the XD felt better to me. I liked the fact that there was a place for my pinky finger on the XD grip and it just felt better.

Rent both and shoot them. You'll know.

I put a Crimson Trace laser grip on mine and am very pleased w/ my gun set up.

Like others who have posted I too own and fire both a Glock 26 and an XS9SC. For me, both shoot quite well but I really prefer the XD for the following reasons: (a) The grip is much better for my large hands and (b) the squeeze safety on the XD give me a larger measure of safety (and therefore confidence) in the firearm.

If you already happen to own a full size model of either, you should go with the "matching" sub-compact model. Your hand will feel familiar hardware on the draw and you can use the full size mags in the sub-compact if added capacity is ever needed, on the fly.)

Rented both at the ranged, also the small M&P. Really liked the XD and the Glock, the M&P not as much. Nothing bad to say about the Smith, I guess the gun just didn't have "it" for me. The G26 is on my to buy list, I liked it the best, just barely more than the XD.

I own and shoot both. FWIW, I prefer the G26. I like it's lower bore axis. IMO the G26 conceals better for me also.

August 5, 2008, 09:41 AM
Ive shot an M&P9c, XD9sc, and G26. I bought and sold the M&P9c because I couldnt shoot it consistently. Maybe I needed more rounds through it to break in the trigger (over 200 fired) but I dont miss the gun. A friend of mine bought a XD9sc but traded it in a few weeks later for a G26. I shot the XD9sc fine but the G26 is much better IME.

August 5, 2008, 10:09 AM
I prefer the XD, because the grip safety gives me more piece of mind. Guess I've read too many stories about something getting caught in the trigger of a Glock when re-holstering.

August 5, 2008, 10:14 AM
you can't go wrong with either one. they're both good guns.

my fiance liked the grip safety and good striker/chamber indicators, so we went with the XD.

August 5, 2008, 12:52 PM
Also remember the Glock 26 doesn't have a rail so if wanted to put a light on it you wouldn't be able to. The XD does have a rail.

The G 26 was my favorite until I tested the Walther P 99 Compact Quick Action.

wait a little longer for the XDM 9mm. Great new trigger reset and feels correctly in your hand, not that the glock is incorrect, but for me glock just seem different. Best you can shoot reloads with the XD compared to glocks.

August 7, 2008, 11:58 AM
I can't speak directly to the 9mm, but the xd compacts and sub-compacts and the glock 26, 27 and 30 are all very similar in size and shape. The problem I had with compact and subcompact xd's and m&p's was my little finger could not find a comfortable place on the grip. I have fairly large hands, but the glocks gave my little finger a perfect seam to fall into where the mag and grip meet. I did not have to resort to mag extensions which would have defeated some of the concealment. That said, the glock 30sf is a perfect fit for me and has proven very accurate. I can't get comfortable with my pinky curled under the grip.

Just like shoes,...they gotta and be comfortable.

Uhhhhhh - My EDC is an XD45 in a Blackhawk Serpa.

When I reholster, I have a full grip hold on the firearm with finger out of the guard (naturally).
The grip safety is engaged.

How do YOU reholster? Pinching the grip between your thumb and middle finger?

I don't understand that 'advantage', as you describe it.

I don't understand that 'advantage', as you describe it.

I think conventional wisdom is to place your thumb on the back of the slide as you re-holster. Doing so should remove the web of your hand from the grip safety, and also prevent the slide from moving rearward should it hang something while sliding into the holster (or ?).

i am a huge xd fan, glocks are cool, the 19, but the rest i really don't carer for, especially the mini glocks. the sc xd on the other hand is a fine, accurate, reliable weapon that fits me better.

December 14, 2008, 10:31 AM
Glock 26 hands down.

December 15, 2008, 11:31 AM
XD is my .02 cents. Even better if you get a Springer trigger job on it. It eliminates a crapload of Pre-travel.

December 15, 2008, 02:47 PM
The XD was too blocky and bulky for my tastes. The Glock is a little bit better in that dept. I also don't care for extra safeties on my carry gun to complicate things. I went with the G26 and it has been a great gun. I love the full-size XD platform, but the sub-compact just doesn't hit home for me.

December 15, 2008, 03:12 PM
I've shot both and prefer the G26. It fits my hand rather well and I would add either a Pearce grip extension, or a mag extension also made by Pearce.

Both are good guns you just have to find what fits and fires best for you. I have shot my reloads out of my Glock and haven't had a problem yet. Maybe just lucky I suppose.

December 15, 2008, 04:44 PM
I like the XD but would buy a glock due to better finish cheaper parts. They both shoot about the same for me
Get the pinky extension for the glock if you get it

On duty I carry the G19...dept mandated 12# trigger. Off duty I am supposed to carry either that or the G26(same trigger). I love both these pistols. I have small hands so I have to buy accordingly. Even taught myself to shoot more comfortably with the G26...index finger down the side and use the middle finger on the trigger. 2 hand grip with that hand position is fantastic! Even my P226 handles great with small hands. The grips just fit right.

I'd say the 26. The gun is capable of extreme accuracy and the bore axis is better. It eats the +P+ rounds no problem.

Jeeze... even LEO's are getting hosed by NY's "common sense" gun regulations. I can't imagine a 12# trigger on a DAO pistol... no wonder some departments have such terrible hit ratios.

That grip saftey on the xd9 is just something else to worry about. orchidhunter

The 26 for me. I like the lower bore axis. Not that you can't find good holsters for the XD's but everyone makes a holster for the GLOCK. I also like the fact that I can work on the GLOCK. Simple wins for me.

You really can't go wrong with either though. Same with the Walthers and MP's, though they are still behind in the holster deptartment. Buy what you shoot the best. Not just staight accuraccy either, do some practical shooting if possible.

Some more choice, there is a new kid on the block.

I prefer the Glock for its greater availability of accessories & parts and because it was the first sub compact I could shoot well from mag 1, shot 1 :D

July 5, 2009, 09:54 PM
I've owned both. I thought when I bought the xd9 sc it was the gun for me. I shot it well, it never missfired and I had thought I would never have a reason to get rid of this gun. THEN I decided to buy a g26 just beacause i've always wanted a baby glock. WOW i can't beleive how much I like this gun. It shoots great, it has also never miss fired. I have larger hands and have always felt more better with a compact gun over a subcompact but this gun shoots awesome. I ended up putting a pierce extention on the mags and it feels even better. Plus the g26 feels thinner and lighter. I have now sold my xd9 and replaced it with the g23. Once you go glock you never go back.

July 5, 2009, 10:55 PM
I have owned the G26 "forever" and have recently been shooting the XD that a friend just bought. I would have to say that it is a NICE copy job.

July 6, 2009, 02:03 AM
I have fired them both and the grip angle resulted in the XD feeling much better. I vote XD by a long shot.
