Does anyone know if the Gov. ever packed .45 in stripper clips for loading the Thompson, or M3 Grease Gun??

Don't know but you can put it on M-14 strippers if you get bored.

The first step would be to find out if there ever was the little gadget for Thompson or M-3 magazines to allow them to be loaded from stripper clips. I don't recall ever seeing one, even in a picture, or hearing about one. If there was no such gadget, then there would be no reason to have put up ammo on clips.

For what it's worth (not much probably) the Chinese made a copy of the C96 "Broomhandle" in .45. They are loaded with stripper clips.

I've never seen or heard of this being done. There are no grooves or indentations in the magazines that could be used to affix a stripper clip type adapter either.
