SKS Accuracy

Hi again,
I'm thinking about picking up a Norinco SKS, and I have a couple of questions.
1) How is the accuracy of these rifles? What size groups can I expect at 100 yds, assuming I do my part. I sold my mini-14 because it couldn't put more than 2 shots in the same 4" circle, without waiting 10 minutes or more between shots. (Nope, it wasn't just me, NObody could make this thing group). I'll be perfectly happy if it'll shoot 3 MOA or under.
2) Are there pistol grip stocks available anywhere besides the Dragunov stock? I'd like a solid stock with a pistol grip, not one of those space age looking things.
Thanks again, I'm glad to be able to pick your brains so I can hopefully avoid at least some of the stupid mistakes I have been known to make! :)

The SKS is a 300 yard military rifle. It is utterly reliable and quite rugged.
I doubt that it will group better than 4 inches. It was designed for reliability, dependability, simplicity and combat accuracy. It was never designed to have target or long range accuracy.
I have a Norinco SKS. I dearly love the little rifle and wouldn't dream of parting with it. But I use it for a plinker and varmint control at short range.
I think you made a wise decision geting rid of the Ruger. I wouldn't trade my Norinco for all the Mini-14s ever made. Just my $.02

The open tangent sights are not good for getting groups on paper, they really aren't.
They do, however, index quickly and instinctively on human or similarly shaped targets, even at long range. That's what they were designed for, after all. Practice makes perfect, as always.

My Norinco will easily shoot a 4 MOA group (i've tried out to 200 yards) with Wolf ammo. The rifle may be capable of a little better, given my caffeine intake, so who knows...

Okay, I'm sold! I really want one!
What about aftermarket stocks? Any ideas for a pistol grip other than that hideous Dragunov thing?

Leave your SKS alone..it was designed to work with the stock thats on it...

Just Kidding!
Okay, I think that's a fair thing to say. I guess I'll stick with it the way it comes.
Thanks everybody

I dropped mine in a Choate stock, put a scope on it, and was cutting 100 yard groups of just over an inch with it a couple of years ago.

On a good day, if I hold my mouth just right, I can get 3 inch groups with mine. I've got one of those kinda not really folding stocks on mine and love it, but it came with a Choate sporter stock that was pretty comfy.

They aren't pistol grip stocks, but try one of those ugly red fiberglass jungle stocks. They're slimmer than the wood stocks and quite durable. You can pick one up for under $10.
I put one on my carbine and I really like it.

are you using some sort of brass deflector with your scoped SKS? I dropped an old Simmons on mine, and the ejected shells dinged the hell out of the bottom side of the scope.

Dill,
No. This is one of the shortie 4x scopes that mounts on a modified receiver cover, which keeps it out of the way of ejected brass.
