What was the chronology of the AutoMag, Peter? I seem to recall a High Standard brand name. Was that the first? TIA

A friend of mine had one of those in .44 caliber for a while back in the early 80s...We used to get a kick out of watching it throw the floorplate off the magazine and dump the spring and ammo on the ground about every 4-5 rounds. He took it to a pin match once, and got invited to stop because it
was knockin' pieces off the pins big enough to brain a good-sized squirrel.

Cheers!

I am no expert, I just own one (unfired little stinker!)

Mine is a pasadena version which is the first. They were the "A" series. Around 3000 total made give or take. Then the went to El Monte and Hi Standard for another 1500 or so. Then back to Pasadena I think for another 2500 or so.

This is all very vague recollections so don't trust it other then the Pasadena.

I do know this. The Pasadena "A" series is supposed to be the best made and had the best steel. Mine is a lower serial number and should be a good shooter.

So, in other words, the company that manufactured it was called AutoMag and was located in Pasadena and then moved to El Monte, then was bought out by High Standard, then went back to AutoMag? Pretty confused here. Nice weapon, Peter!

A .44 AutoMag is on top of my "Exotic Guns to Own When I have A Lot Of Money" list.

No it was AMT as best I can remember.

What I really should do is pull out all of the brochure stuff, and take another picture with everything laid on on a table. It would be fun to do over the holidays.

To bad some one here cannot say much about shooting one. This one has never been fired other then for proofing at the factory.

AMP refered to the caliber not the gun,as in .44 AMP (Auto Mag Pistol). I`ve wanted an Automag since I was a little kid and finally got to shoot one this year. It was outfreakinstanding! :D One of these days.......... Marcus

Which Issue, I will have to go and buy that one.

I bought this one in 1976, don't shoot it much due to the cost of parts that might break. My wife thinks it's cool to shoot, doesn't sting her palm like the 4 inch S&W M29 can.

Should be a picture here.

Backwoods,

:what: Is that a genuine DADE speedloader pouch there on your Missus' belt? :what:

BluesBear,
I just went and looked at it. There are no markings on it, just leather flaps riveted onto a hard synthetic block(black nylon?) machined to fit the loaders. I can tell you that it's at roughly 25 years old though(time flies, don't it?)

Dade - those were the ones with a looped coil spring around the body to retain the rounds? I gave a set of those away, 2 loaders, basket weave double case w/toggle closers, but that was 1978-80 or so.

I'd love to find a few Dades just to have for the heck of having them since they weren't very reliable. I would LOVE to find a couple of the N-frame plain black pouches for them though.

I sold a few Dade 5 and 6 shot speedloaders and three cases to somebody on here awhile ago. Look on Ebay you should be able to find some.
