I was reading an article about VIP protection in a gun mag and it mentioned a "select fire" (aka machine pistol) Glock called the Glock 18 in 9mm -- cool.

I never knew Glock made such a pistol.

Has anyone ever seen in person or fired a Glock 18?

Here's a photo of it (if you look closely at the photo you can see the select fire selector on the side of the slide):

Yeah, I saw a demonstration once. Took a NRA pistol class once, and one of the instructors who was also a LEO brought one in. Good stuff. It's the standard carry piece for cops in some small town out here in Kansas.

That is the scariest thing I have heard all day. :what:

Machine pistols are not the easiest things in the world to master and even though the Glock 18 is supposed to be one of the best in regards to controllability the thought of some local LEO, who doesn't take the the time to train, capping off a few rounds on full auto is just plain scary.

I am not bashing LEOs. There are many, many LEOs who train hard and are damn good shots, but there are also many who meet the minimum qualifications and that's it. The Glock 18 is not a minimum qualification gun.

Now were I to be one of those Kansas LEOs I would be thrilled. "Yeah, I'm gonna need another couple thousand rounds for practice.....yeah I really need the work."

If the rate of fire is high enough....
I know a few who would probably get better groups on full auto than on semiauto.:D

I talked to a LEO for Harnett county (I think) at mountain rescue school last November and he said that he was armed with a Glock 18 and a MP5 in his patrol car. I was too busy rebooting to ask if everyone in his organization was armed the same.

I'm looking at my sweet l'il G26 in a whole new light......these guys (http://fullautoglock.net/) were selling that full autorizer a while back with a note saying it was for information and educational (?!) purposes and should not actually be attached to your Glock. i guess the BAFT had a quiet word in their ears about that.......think I'll stick with this (http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/product/product_detail.jsp?prodID=9157) It's a whole lotta legal fun

Oh man, i'd love to have one of those "Glock Autorizers" (for educational purposes of course ;) )...Too bad the BATF shut the door on that operation.

On the www.FullAutoGlock.net website, they say "Not for sale in US"..i wonder what country they can sell them legally.

looks like a lotta laughs if you have a large unpopulated desert area and a big bag of beer cans to shoot at, but it seems a little ironic that, in these days of police being issued DAO weapons because of sensitivity over liability in shootings, that any dept would issue machine pistols. Never been to Kansas, but I would hate to be a bystander if something unpleasant went down...

About a year ago I visited a gunsmith with a manufacturer's license. While there I was able to fire a magazine through a converted 9mm Glock, the one with the factory porting.
The gun was pretty loud but I was able to shoot consistent three shot bursts and hit an old bucket about 20 feet away.
I have shot some FA before, including a Mauser 712, and didn't find the Glock hard to control.
An educated trigger finger helps.
