New to reloading, need a little help

Ok, I just bought myself a Hornady Lock-N-Load Progressive kit from Cabela's. I have never reloaded before, and after talking to a couple of reloaders, decided just to get a progressive and take on the higher learning curve. So far I got the press set up, and all dies working as they should. My point of frustration lies within the powder drop. I can't seem to get a consistent load every drop will vary. I am trying to load 40 S&W with titegroup. The loads will vary every drop from 4.9 grains to 6.1 grains... :banghead: I just don't know.... Has anyone had this problem? if so how did you fix it? I know I have probably left some vital information out, knowing my luck..
Thanks

I'm not familiar with that model, but in as much as it's relatively new, I'd call Hornady (or, whoever manufactured it) and let them walk you through it.

try wiping out the hopper with a dyer sheet, and then run about a half pound of powder thru it withut bothering to check the accuracy, just run it thru.
Now,check it for accuracy, and let us know how it turned out.

Did you clean out the powder hopper? .
Take out the drum and clean it well
Here is an article I wrote on the L-N-L that may help you some.

When you check your charge weight are you running an empty case into the powder dispenser. If you cycle the dispenser by hand some of the powder falls onto the drop tube or expander which every you might have. then the next time you try it some of that falls off or more gets on the edge then falls off on the next try. I went round and round with this a couple years ago. As stated above make sure to clean it really well and run a lot of powder through it. Also when you first put powder in you should just run 10 or so charges out of it. This will allow the powder to settle
I also put a powder baffle in mine and have a pistol rotor

I don't believe the powder measure has been cleaned properly. Use brake cleaner, then run a little powdered graphite through it. I've loaded a lot of Titegroup in mine, and never had a measurable variation.

Don't use break cleaner on plastic. I melted mine. Blow it out with compressed air and wipe with a dryer sheet.
a powder baffle is helpful to control the flow of powder and when pouring powder into the powder measure strike the outside of the plastic with the handle of a screw driver about 10 times then drop about 10 charges to get things going. Dump those charges back into the hopper and weigh the 11th charge and thereafter. See if that changes anything.

The powder measure comes with a protective lube that must be cleaned off. Best way to clean is with warm water and Dawn Dish Soap. Disassemble the entire measure, clean with Dawn, dry completely, run powdered graphite thru, wipe the expterior with used dryer antistatic sheet.
The micrometer pistol insert is nice!!!!
