I may use a .22 in the long run, but for the time being, and the area available for me to hunt I wish to use my Mossberg 500. My question is what type of round should I use? What choke?

Now that can be a tougher question than it sounds! Usually in Arkansas where I hunt, I start the early season with an improved or modified, something fairly open because with the leaves on, the shots will be shorter in the woods that I hunt. However, if hunting a pecan orchard, I will use a full choke. As the season progresses, and the leaves drop, I move to a full choke or a .22LR. However, it depends on the conditions where you hunt.

Modified Choke with #6 or 71/2. Personally I swithed to precision airguns exclusively for squirrel.

Modified choke #6 shot. I switched to a .22 long ago and have never looked back, head shots only. I like to go out and sit in the woods and enjoy the "quiet time" away from te phone, tv, etc.

6s and Modified for the start of the season, move up to Full later on. An oz should be enough.

I'm going to try my T/C in .357 and see what I can get. I wont take any shots unless I can hit the head. I'll let ya know how it went.

I use modified and 1-1/8oz of #5's in my Mossberg, though I doubt it kills them any deader than #6's. Took my last one at 40yds while he was running away from me.

What Dave said. I've found that 6s penetrate the hide much better than 7 1/2s.
