Can anyone give any info to brands/models for a decent shotgun, side by side just for self defense around the house. does NOT have to be fancy! just effective. 20 ga, or 12 gauge.

I would appreciate any information or links. I am interested in "less expensive" options here, just function, nothing fancy.

I have researched a bunch of stuff online, and I dont seem to be finding a basic, "meat and potatoes" double barrel shotgun.....

anyone knows who makes one? I am not looking for some piece of art, just a functional shotgun.

take a look at stoeger guns, they make a few that are pretty good choices

Stevens 311/Springfield 5000 can be found for a few hundred and are pretty meat and potatoes.

Lot of manufacturers of coach guns with external hammers these days, due to the increasing popularity of cowboy action shooting.

Any reason you want a double, though? Faster, easier second shot compared to a pump?
