..is a beast. I just put over 100 rounds through mine (first time I'd shot it) and the DA trigger pull is just horrendously heavy.

There is an FFL near me who is a certified armorer for Sig Sauer, so I might have them lighten the DA pull for me. If so, about how much should it cost? I trust 'em, but I want some idea of what I'm getting into. I've never had any gunsmithing work done before on any of my guns before.

You can do it yourself if your the least bit handy. The part, a new P225 mainspring will cost you about $4 + shipping. It will give you a trigger pull more in line with most commercial SIG's.

They also have an armorers CD that walks you through a total tear down and reassembly of most P series SIG's. It has a specific section on doing the mainspring. CD costs about $23. Tools you need are basically a couple of small punches, and a screwdriver. The CD covers that too.

You can get everything you need here......

...

Could only cost you around 15 bucks if you ordered a main (hammer) spring pck, 15, 16, 17, 16, 19lb kit from Wolff springs.

Put it on yourself, and find the perfect, lighter, DA pull without light-strikes, thru testing of a min of 200 rounds, plus 10 JHP's per weight change, going lighter - say 18lb down to 17lbs.

You should also get a Sig armorers DVD from Topgun supply, but I have no idea the cost, as a friend lent me his to change mine on my P229 from factory 24lb main spring to 18lb main spring, and have enjoyed the much lighter DA pulls with 600 flawless rounds thus far..

I am using the 19# spring from Tops and the pull is smooth and constant around 10 lbs.

I'm not sure what you're used to. My 1994 P6 has a tough, but smooth DA pull. It took me a magazine or two, fired all double action (I love the decocker that slowly lowers the hammer down) to get used to it, but after that....well, it beats a thumb safety.

You might just need to break the gun in a bit, it might still be rough. Your gun might only have had a couple dozen rounds fired before you got it.

If your accustomed to the commercial SIG triggers, the P6's DA triggers are heavy (the SA are actually pretty good, or at least mine are). I have two P6's, and early 80's gun and a late 90's gun. The early gun had a very heavy DA trigger, the later gun, wasnt quite as bad, but it too was heavy. They wont get any better from shooting and need the mainspring replaced if you want a trigger comparable to the commercial guns.

Your gun might only have had a couple dozen rounds fired before you got it.
Your not kidding here. My 90's gun has little to no holster wear, and only a faint smiley on the barrel. I've seen some that the barrel looked new.

I have very little experience with handguns, but I mainly shoot milsurps and my 10/22, all with triggers I like. I do think that my P6 has been around the block, there are some rather pronounced smilies on the barrel and some holster wear (though, granted, holster wear is just from carrying, not shooting) And there was some crud in the gun when I bought it. For whatever it's worth, my pistol is dated to 1980, and I bought it from AIM 2-3 weeks ago, again, for whatever that's worth.

The ex-LE person I was shooting with thought the DA pull was heavy (we switched guns for the heck of it) and strongly reccomended that I get it lightened up.

Mine is real nice but may try a wolfe spring kit during the winter,

I prefer a heavy DA trigger on my concealed carry gun. And I carry the P6, so I am quite satisfied.
