While I'm waiting for my brass to clean.......

It's these unoccupied moments that make me ponder profound thoughts.

A lot of people want to ignore the historical importance that a firearms have had on our culture, be it fighting for rights or fighting for self defense. I have been noticing how the firearm nomenclature is an integral part of our English language.

Below are a few examples (add more if you wish, add less if you wish):

1. If someone is honorable, he is a straight shooter.

2. His facts are suspect, he is shooting from the hip.

3. Boy those Brady guys are off the mark.

4. That's not going to work, it's a shot in the dark.

5. The IRS took everything, lock, stock, and barrel.

6. Some people tend to shoot off at the mouth.

7. When is the last time a candidate was right on target?

8. You're going to Alaska? Well keep your powder dry.

9. Never light three cigarettes off of one match (superstition).

10. Faster than a speeding bullet.

The candidates came under fire from the NRA.

The candidates went into the debate locked and loaded.

I have my promotion at work in my sights.

Set your sights on supporting RKBA.

I went to my buddy's house to shoot the ****.

I could tell my wife was cocked and locked when I came home with a new gun.

Balancing the checkbook shot down any idea of me buying an upper this week.

eta: this is a good thread.

"Never light three cigarettes off one match."

My Grandfather, who was in World War one told me this. At night you could strike a match and light a cigarette or maybe two. If you tried more than that the German snipers would have enough time to sight in on you and Kapow!

How about:

Neither McCain nor Obama are of the same caliber as Ronald Regan.

On the other hand maybe "a little pain from McCain will be better than a lot of trauma from Obama"

Police look for the smoking gun.

You can keep a tally by the notches on your gun.

If you don't give in you stick to your guns.

If you are caught in the act your are in the crosshairs.

If you have to get it done you may as well bite the bullet and do it.

Sitting up front in the passenger seat is riding shotgun.

I knew I didn't have them all. I get all warm and fuzzy when anti gunners go ballistic and use these sayings.

I can't believe no one stumbled on this one yet, so I'll take a shot...

Androtaz, my understanding of "the whole nine yards" is that it comes from tailors using that much fabric to make a man's full suit of clothes, with two pair of pants.

"Never light three cigarettes off one match." Our old joke in the USAF was "Third man on one match dies in whore house.... With a smile on his face!" :D
