Ruger Mk II Scope Mounts

As I was not sufficiently graced with foresight--or patience--to get the tapped/drilled Target model of the Mk II, I'm left with a bit of a dilemma when it comes to mounting a scope. I can either take it to a smith and get it drilled, obviously, or I can use one of the other solutions. I'm curious to see if anyone has had any experience with those 'other solutions'--in particular, I'm looking at the SoLow, Weigand, and B-Square mounts. How are they? Solid, quality? Not inclined to... well, do things that scope mounts oughtn't do? All comments welcome, except those from a certain friend who's already let me know what he thinks, but will probably post anyhow. :neener:
Thanks all!

What kind of optics were you planning to put on it?

Probably an Ultradot 30mm.

The Weigand mount for an MKII topped with an UltraDot is a great combination. No gunsmithing, inexpensive, rock solid, quality units. Both can be found at www.jackweigand.com Plus, Jack is a really nice guy to do buisiness with.
Good Luck...

I'll second what JH said. Jack Weigand's stuff is all top notch. I have a few of his revolver bases.
I went a different direction with one of my Rugers...

If I had it to do over again I'd use the Docter Optics sight rather than the Optima. But so far it is performing just fine.

I went through the same decision process about a year ago. After a month of scratching my head and changing my mind, I went with the Burris base. The rear of the base mounts at the rear sight, and the front fastens to a clamp that slides onto the barrel and locks in front of the receiver.
I don't think it's a clean looking as the Weigand, but it's absolutely rock solid. No regrets.

Hmmm. The Weigand was actually the one that I was least inclined towards--simply because having the scope/base assembly attached to the weapon at only one point seemed sorta questionable to me.

I've had good luck on mine with the B-Square. No smithing to install and you can still use the sights if need be. I have a 2x scope on mine and have taken it off and put back without having to re-zero.

That's precisely why I ruled it out as well. It seemed to me having the base mounted at two points rather than one would give better rigidity.
My first choice would have been the B Square which mounts at the front and rear sights, but they don't currently make it for a 10" barrel.

I have a Mk.II with a B-Square mount and a Tasco red dot optic. I bought it this way. I haven't shot it a ton, but have put maybe 500-1000 rounds through it. It seems to work fine. I think the guy that sold it to me thought he was ripping me off. The optic looked great indoors, but outside you couldn't see the dot at all. After about two seconds of examination revealed that he had the optic on backwards. Once I turned it around, it runs great. You won't believe the accuracy you can get with a Mk.II and an optic, although it takes some getting used to. In fact, I have to get used to it every time I fire it even if it was the day before.
I am not familiar with Jack Weigand's mount, but I have done business with Jack before. I have a S&W mount from him and also had him rebuild my S&W Model 29 4". The work and accessories I have seen from him were outstanding. That Model 29 couldn't be any better.

I love the solows, I'm pretty sure they are the lowest and lightest...

I would highly recommend the So-Low mounts. They are superb.

Paired up with an Ultra-Dot sight, you have the best combo going for your MkII.
Ultra-Dot Sights (http://www.ultradotusa.com/)
Enjoy.
