I am currently stationed overseas, no firearms.

I was thinking about picking up a quality gas operated air soft pistol to practice dry-firing. You know, work on the fundamentals of grip, trigger squeeze, sight alignment. Is airsoft the way to go or should I look at some other options? Thanks

Yes, Airsoft is the way to go.

Check out the KWA G19 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUNs0Zau4DE) it's a Glock 19 copy in an Airsoft type of gun.

It field strips (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_X4ro2dIgg) just like the Glock and feels almost like the Glock in operation. The trigger is different and of course there is little recoil but otherwise it's close to the real thing and does help build skill.

If you practice indoors you can reuse the bbs until they break. Just be careful what you shoot at they can pierce a coke can and do all kinds of damage to things.
