Lost my 1911

Well I took my wife out shooting this past weekend to get her some more practice with our current home defense gun, a P99 in .40sw. I was unfortunately(?) able to talk her in to trying out my 1911 and she loved it! Now depending on whether it can reliably feed hollowpoints or not I may have lost it to her. So my question is what should I replace it with :)

Well your replacement is strictly up to you. My advice isnt about the gun...just to keep it away from your wife :D

What kind of 1911 was it? I would start by finding another 1911.

That's the problem with a good 1911, everybody wants to shoot it. Here's what you do. Take the P99 and paint the grips pink. If she's into "that's cute", then the problem is solved.

What's wrong w/ another 1911? How cute would that be to having matching 1911's ;) Just go w/ either the stainless or blue opposite of your wife's gun :D

Buy another and get "his and hers" grips. :p Bren

That's a win win situation.
Get whatever tickles your fancy and know that she has done the same.

Sam's right!!
You have a GOLDEN opportunity to buy another gun!!
I suggest the Glock 30!!! :D
Hey, you invoked the Dark Side by asking the question!!! :p

You gotta ask yourself...which do you value more? Your wife or your gun? Which would you rather have :p

Take the honeybee shopping for her own, brand new 1911 of HER choice.

Be a man and put your foot down, "darnit honey, that's MY 1911, why can't ya get yer own?" :D

See if you can purchase one that'll take a .22 conversion kit as well.

Twere it me, I'd go and buy one of the NRM Colt Commanders in blue, but that's just cause I like the commander.

Oh, I was just joshing ya earlier. I would get a new Colt commander for moi and give her the old one that maybe shoots hollowpoints (whats wrong w/ 230 gr. ball?)

A good dilemna you're facing there anapex.

The real problem is finding her a holster that'll work and getting her to clean her own gun as most of the female units I've taken shooting don't cotten to the sweet smell of Hoppes No 9.

Adios

I know this is an old post, but just came across it today. Um, am I wrong or wouldn't most husband be happy with losing their .45 to their wife if it meant that she would actually go out and shoot it with him? :p

Just my two cents.

Oh, and I don't like pink guns either. :p

Hey, let her try your other guns, you never know what else you'll HAVE TO replace (how tragic is that?)

...I'd be a very contented shooter :D

Good luck picking out your new 1911.

Can I have her Walther 40?? ;)

C.R.Sam: "That's a win-win situation."

And, Girlwithagun's comment about your wife going to the range with you.

When I remarried last year, Luvvamalife and I had an understanding - - The guns are NOT community property. She can use almost anything I have, and I of course set aside a couple for her use.

Now, however, there are little comments, like, "Johnny, did you move my P11?" (It now resides on HER computer desk, and she has taken de facto possession of the P32 for pocket carry around town.)

After two plate matches in which she shot my Buckmark, I can take it out shooting, of course, but she asks if I'll replace HER .22 in HER range bag.

On specific request, she got a nice leather Galco purse with built-in holster for her birthday. First thing we get home, though, she wants to know if a 1911 would fit. (It didn't.) "Your P11 would work fine, though" Good try, Jawn. She asked to "Try Out" my Officers ACP. Un-HUMM. Now, we're going out for dinner: "What pistol you have, Hon?" "Oh, I have my .45 in my purse."

I get the feeling she also has designs on a High Power, and I don't dare take my AR15 out of the car. Won't let her shoot my few Smith & Wessons, though.

But, you know, it's kind of a comforting feeling, knowing I have IMMEDIATE backup, one with a personal stake in my well-being - - -

:p
Best,
Johnny

Gee, I was concerned with the title.
You really didn't lose a gun, its around her(e) somewhere. :)

I've been through this myself. " I really really like your Commander ...<insert other guns here> " At least my wife at the time called my gunsmith and had a wish list, he'd call and advise that the gun was in, all I had to do was pick it up. It was great knowing we each had similiar guns, used same mags, and had increasd the number of back-up guns if need be (redundency) . Oh, advice...she will not want your old cruddy mags "I want new ones, yours are scratched and ugly, what do you do drop them? ;) NO shreik resembles that of a woman dropping a new mag the first time in mud when learning a mag change...they get over it, but don't laugh like I did...:p

That the hell good is your freedom if you don't have anyone special to share it with?

Skunk,
I'm alone , not lonesome.
You have your youth, enjoy it. Things happen for whatever--and believe you me on that 'whatever part". Besides someday when you get hitched you will be able to say you were able to accomplish much while single..which you have...some can't.
How many new shooters have you helped? See...now go fondle the Beretta. :D

I was fortunate that if I assisted a new female shooter the wife #2 wasn't jealous. Some guys didn't have that understandingof a wife. Of course mine might embarass me and do catcalls to some hunk on the range to get back at me...or distract him...all in fun, all in fun.

What do ya' mean: immediate back up with a stake in you well-being???

If you die, she gets the gear-all of it!!

Just kiddin', My wife carries and conceals very well in the purse--real handy where I can't carry! Really wish I could get her to go to the range some with me. Afraid to let her shoot my Glock 19 though.

Just came across the post ..............

Would definitely get another 1911 (unless you want to buy HER a new one if you've become attached to yours) - -

And, since you both like the .45 now would be the perfect opportunity to convince her that you should have that new Dillon 650 (if you don't already have it).;)
