The Muzzleloading Forum (http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/fusionbb.php?)

It's limited to 'traditional' muzzleloading only (no inlines), and they enforce it, but in a friendly way.

There is a new subforum on a S&W site, scroll down towards the bottom of the Main Page to find it.

Brand new one to discuss all BP guns, BPCR to Flintlocks...I'm trying to help the Admins get it off the ground. Nice friendly forum, very low key....folks are friendlier...

This one is very traditional and they just upgraded their forum software and moved to a new address:

http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php

This one is very modern and lots of folks there are avid inline target shooters and hunters, although not exclusively:

Jerks on the Voy forum? Interesting.
Raise your hand if you've ever been on the Voy forum...I bet there's lots of posters who switch between Voy and The High Road.

The Muzzleloading Forum is hunting/camping/trekking and re-enacting with historical 'sections, i.e. time periods'. also has different sections for smoothbores, pistols, matchlocks - even cannon. and campfire cooking tips/recipes. great forum but as said - strictly no inline guns or BP cartridge guns. there is a 'non-muzzzleload' section where those are freely discussed however. if you enjoy 'primitive hunting' or re-enacting you should check it out.

I read and post on both the High Road and Voy. Both are interesting forums. I see alot of give and take on both forums. If you are going to get your bowels in an uproar over which is best, Colt or Remington or something you are just looking for problems. Its give and take, just opinions for what they are worth and like my opinion isnt worth spit many times.. Probably this is one of them.

Here and the SASS Wire and Saloon. OpenRange gets a lot of mention on the Wire when BP questions pop up, but I've only followed links to specific threads.

There are some jerk on the Wire, but they're few and far between. And they all shoot smokeless.

I also visit the Weapons section on the Mythbusters Forum. Every once in awhile a BP question pops up. A member over there called rick4060 is very knowledgable about BP cartridge, and guns in general.

On the Wire I go by Pulp, on the MB forum I'm blackpowderpulp

Then some people are just born cry babies , and others like to have fun. I guess I was rude and answered his Post with out being formally asked a question. Oh well, I am so dang sorry....

Must be Mausgun

This must be better than CAS if Riot Earp is lookin for a better place to hang out. I know he's signed in up there in CAS but no answer here. Those CAS guys are a good lot, Scorrs, Storm, Rats, and of course the Darksiders.
I re-Enlisted with the Muzzleloading Forum, I believe that's where I met Mykeal. Was the old format which I liked much better, and in the French & Indian War forum...which was also better then.

I've gotten a lot of great info from that forum. It's very specialized but quite friendly. Just don't mention in-lines or the room will go all quiet and someone will say "They are not of the body." Then the guys in robes will come for you. Landru!

I have to ask--what does "FOY" or "Voy" or whatever stand for? It looks like a somewhat outdated (no offense) BB with discussions of BP revolvers.

pohill
August 11, 2008, 06:24 PM
Voy was developed by Al Gore when he invented the Internet.
As far as outdated...what does that actually mean? Is it the setup of the forum that makes it outdated? (background, etc)
Or is it the subject matter (old guns)...

arcticap

There's another dedicated traditional BP forum that I know about. Its name is the "Traditional Muzzleloader Message Hide". It was originally created on July 23, 1998, and this is how long it claims to have been around:

It is the oldest message board service dedicated to the sport of muzzleloading of any kind on the web ....

Enjoy! :)

I guess I"m really wondering what that forum *is*. It doesn't seem to have a name, and people are calling it "voy" which is like calling THR "vbulletin" or whatever.

As far as it looking old fashioned, I mean it reminds me of the early internet BB's that were just strings of topics with no folders or subforums.

pohill

I think Voy is a general title under which there's a million or so forums. The one we speak of is the black powder revolver forum. There really isn't a moderator, though "Wags" as we know him does run and maintain the board. It's pretty self regulating with alot of good info tossed around, though it can be what I call a "lockerroom", and occcasionally someone gets towel snapped (maybe Riot Earp witnessed some of the "fun" and thought we, or someone, was being mean to a new guy. Or maybe someone was just being mean to a new guy - it happens if you come in all puffed up with knowledge and opinions). It's a forum where a simple "Thanks for the info" goes a long way. You don't have to be registered to post, so for all I know, everyone on there is the same person put on this earth to fuel my paranoia.
The funny thing is that if Riot Earp made an appearance over there he'd take some ribbing but it would soon pass and he'd be one of the gang, if that's what he wanted.
I'm not trying to lure people from The High Road, which is a good forum, too, but variety is the spice of life.

Here you go Cosmoline http://www.voy.com/
From Voyager Info-Systems Beverly Hills, CA

That's the skinny and alot less complicated to use and run than alot of the other type out there. Tons of archives readily available and one Moderator that has to be one of the most patient and leaniant guys in our group. That would be Wags, he takes all the heat and we have the fun ... he has us vote on things within the forum for rules. As you can see there aren't too many. But those we have are upheld Wags don't take any flack.

Anyway that's our forum and we like it as it is, and always welcome anyone who stops by or stays...had fun there today...

That's kinda like it ain't it Pohill, Sundance, K.A.T., Mausgun, Scrats, Oneshooter, whoever else is over here.

Actually, it's not a nice pic at all.

I realize the intent, as evidenced by the smiley face. I still don't like seeing a gun pointed at me. It's not cool whether 'just a picture' or a careless act in person.

Just my personal reaction...

mausgun
August 31, 2008, 11:43 AM
Yeah. It is kinda intimidating. It was made while I was experimenting with photo tricks to use on the internet, and was surprised how powerful the image was. Then I stuck stuff in the barrel... whole differn't effect:
http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll175/cyberdrek/Black%20Powder/KisstheDuck.jpg
It's unfortunate that this picture gives some folks offense. Experience has made me a little testy with "sacred cows". I keep my personal noise level down by staying out of discussions about politics, religion, personalities or anything else where jelly is nailed to a tree or somebody tries to find the clean end of a turd. I know my humor's not palatable to all, so for those indignant few: nothing personal, just my way. I understand the feelings and the need to speak up. Sorta what one feels like being referred to as a "coot" in a public venue. Kinda hafta consider intent and tolerate personalities, I guess. It takes all kinds.

..if it offends the community tastes here, delete it. No offense taken.

stilldave - Hello and welcome to the forum. Get a container of your favorite beverage and pull up a chair. Lots of nice folks around here and they share their knowledge freely. Don't be afraid to ask any question you'd like.

One suggestion - it's usually best to start a new thread rather than add on to one that someone else has started. More people will see your question and you'll get a better group of responses. Just use the "New Thread" button at the top of the index page that lists all the open threads.
