Final tally for first day.
30 Doves in just under 4 hours.
We missed a heck alot more than we bagged thats for sure.
But its still a full bag for the 3 of us.
Weather was pretty hot. 88 degrees at 0500 this morning. Ughh.

All in all it was a great day. Seen alot of hunters out in the field.
Only had one close encounter. A rattler with 9 buttons. He's now in snake hell.

Nice pics!!! Sounds like a good hunt. I would have liked to have had 5 shot opportunities today, I only got 2 in 3 hours or so and there were less than 20 in 1000 acres. Of course we are new to dove hunting in WI, but we are having fun.

My sweetie needed me today, so I couldn't hunt. But we went for a drive, and a walk....and ran into two dove hunting groups. ;)
They both limited out in a couple hours.
So mebbe after work this week...if they haven't gone far....
Hey Lennyjoe, those dove look FAT! I'll bet they taste good. Have you tried this recipe?
2 dove breasts
toothpick together with 2 slices of japapeno in between 'em
slice of bacon wrapped around.
Broil, till done on one side, then broil other side.
Pretty tasty, if you like spicey.

No I havent tried that recipe but I will. No problem with the spicey food. Must be the latin in me.:D
Most of the doves were full of seeds. The fullest I've ever seen. Just so happen we were hunting near a body of water in the middle of the desert. Must of needed a drink after all that feeding.
The day started slow, but around 0800 it was on. Was a good time indeed.
Plan on getting out tomorrow too. Had to take today off. Gotta get the daughters new car registered and on the road.

I went out today just north of Maricopa... Right after sunrise was pretty good but they weren't flying anymore after about 0700. I did manage to set a new personal record for the amount of shells required to get the limit though :D. The place I've been hunting for the past 8 years or so is getting developed into homes and whatnot so I've gotta look for a new place somewhat near Phoenix. Any of you guys go on the winter hunts?

I like the winter hunts even more. Where Im hunting at it holds quite a few quail and rabbit. Seems like the dove start coming into the trees around the pond around 0800 so I usually walk the washes and ridges looking for quail and bunnies and then head to the pond for some good ole dove shooting.
Best thing about the winter hunts is that quail and dove are in at the same time.
That and the heat is down quite a bit.
