I am not super knowledgeable, but i think $600 would be a steal for a Colt.......

Man, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you'll get a lot of opinions that it's only worth what YOU will pay for it, and how bad you want it.

I'm no expert, and that looks to be a WWI vintage Colt with original parts, but it's been so heavily polished and plated that any collectible value has been ruined. The United States Property rollmark is gone, and even the Colt Pony has been polished off. And that engraved name REALLY kills it.

It's only worth what you're willing to pay, and try to turn into a decent shooter. Ain't no collectable anymore. I'm thinking $600 is way too high. You can find a lot of excellent brand-new 1911's in that price range.

It COULD be de-plated, refinished and refitted, and made into a nice looking, nice shooting new best friend, but that's a lot of work and money. I wouldn't pay 600 clams for a project gun.

But that's just my opinion, and worth what you paid.

What did that poor Colt do to deserve that???

I'd pass on it as well. It appears to be mostly correct parts wise, but the god awful plating kills it, and whoever J.A. Olier is, he deserves a beating.

Rondawg is right, that is a Colt made in 1916 with all original external parts.

The fancy plating reduced its 21st century value by about 80% from what a collector would give for an unaltered gun.

Another $600 or so and you could have the plating stripped and send it to Bill Adair for restoration. He could make it a fine looking $1000 gun and you would only be out $1200-$1500.

Pass.

I'd call that a BBQ gun. All it needs is some Mother of Pearl stocks and a story.

Hey, it's j.a. olier's BBQ gun! Where'd you get that??

JK.

Although it may now seem like sacrilege to those of us in the Colt faithful, I'd say that maybe good 'ol JA had some fun with that one. I don't think it's worth $600, but maybe to JA's family it's worth a whole lot more...

I would also have too pass on this particular weapon, as it has lost its
"collector appeal" due to all of the cosmetics. Recently, our shop sold
an all original, Colt 1911A1 that dated too between 1917-1918 for $995.
It was a commerical model from that period of time; and had no U.S.
government markings, what-so-ever~! :scrutiny: ;)

That is not a Colt logo on the grip, is it?........... Paraordinance?

And do you want a pistol owned by J. A. Oilier? Who is that?

I don't think so.

It says "Colt" on it so it's worth about $5 to me.

Looks like that new pimped out Taurus 1911 Neither worth that much money. The scrible on slide makes almost worthless to me . I have many Colts No Colt deserves what was done to that one.
Hate to look at the inside

That really is sad. Perhaps it can be stripped and re-blued by a good shop in a high polish blue. Hopefully the engraving is not that deep.

If that can be done perhaps it can have collector value once again if it is basically returned to original condition. All the original parts seem to be there. What is the medallion on those grips? It looks familiar, but I can't place it.

Para is the logo! :barf:

I think Turnbull would do a resto including original markings...

But it just doesn't seem worth it.

I bet those original Para Ordnance 1916 grips would be worth it.:D
I'm with everybody else on this one. PASS.

would anyone buy it for $500?

Oh, I'm sure there's a sucker out there somewhere. The trick would be in finding him. :)

I'd buy it for $250, and I'd carry it around gunshows in a bag. I'd ask dealers if they would be interested in a nice original 1911..... just to see their expressions when I pulled it out.

...whoever J.A. Olier is, he deserves a beating.

+1!

I'd go about $350-400, not because it's worth it, but because I'm a sucker for old Colt 1911 projects. There is always room for one more at VHinch's Home For Wayward And Abused 1911's.

I wouldn't pay 600 for it maybe 300 or so. Its a good base gun for a project.

Well, I don't care what these people say here. I ain't gettin on their bandwagon.

I LIKE IT!

I'd like it better if more of the chrome was falling off. I wouldn't pay the asking price though. I don't like it quite that much. Offer them less. But any old colt in good shootable condition that don't have the scooped out sides on the frame by the trigger is going to draw my eye...HARD.

ok,., how about for $400 bucks?
i asked him what the lowest cash price was and he told me $400.

Its probably a " properties gun" from some department property room, Officers used to "carve" thier names in confiscated firearms.
1. to identify it in court.
2. so other officers (detectives, chiefs.) wouldent want it afterwards.
(you used to be able to ask the court if you could HAVE the gun after the trial.)
I had several! ;)

Aahhh...the OLD days!

I'm a sucker for old GI guns too.

I might would go $350-$400 for it, assuming it shoots OK. I'd ebay off the Para grips, and put on some plain double diamond walnut grips. then I'd nickel all the gold plated small parts.

The nickel GI gun isn't all that bad, assuming it's a decent shooter. The gold plating and the Para grips have got to go though.

Here's my nickel Clark gun with walnut double diamonds for comparison.

Aren't there issues with weaker slides on the WWI models? I've read in more than a few places that WWI models really shouldn't be used that much for shooting because of that...
