I picked up a used 4" model and went looking to replace the grip, but I see Ruger has gone to the Houges. I want either an all wood grip or the original style, which I prefer. What are people thinking of the Houges? I am not big on finger grooves, and I am disappointed Ruger go away from their signiture style. What kind of grip should I get? Where should I go to get it?

Thanks

Lett, who made the old style GP100 grips for Ruger went out of business. Thus Ruger had to find another grip maker. I go back and forth between the Lett grip and the Hogue.

The Lett's can still be found at gunshows and on the net. Prices range from 20.00 up. Probably will keep going up from here.

Hogue does make some wood grips without finger grooves for the GP-100 and Redhawk series.

I just bought a new GP100 and was not happy about the rubber grips either. They do, however, fit the hand and handle recoil VERY nicely....too bad they're so ugly. I'll probably get some wood Hogues and slip the rubber back on when I'm doing a lot of shooting.

I am somewhat disgusted with ruger that they don't even offer wood grips as an option!

Hogue makes some outstanding wood one piece grips for Smiths, Rugers, Colts, and Tauruses, with or without finger grooves, checkering, you name it in the looks department. Whoever designed them must have a hand just like mine, because they fit me perfectly.

I still like the original factory grips the best. I ordered mine from Brownell's.

If you like wooden grips, I can recommend Eagle Grips. (http://www.eaglegrips.com/styles.htm) The Regular, Oversize, Finger Position (i.e., grooves) and Secret Service (if you want to make the grip smaller) are available for Ruger revolvers.

I put Houge grips on my 6"GP100 because the factory grips are to big for my hands. Then I went on to sand the Houge grips to fit my hand. Much better now. I have small female hands and short fingers, so no finger grooves for me:)

Halftime, So there are "large" GP 100 grips? What comes stock on a 4" GP? Gunkwazy, thats some good looking wood. I guess I need to get a factory replacement while I still can and then pick up some wood grips later.

Yes. The 4" GP100 comes with the large grips and the 3" fixed sight version, comes with compact grips.

Indeed. 41Magnum is the man when it comes to custom wood inserts for the Lett grip. I've got a set of cocobolo's for one GP100 and a matching set for my SP101. Good stuff.
