I would like to get some stag grips for my Ruger single six. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking Eagle Grips, but they are pricey. It would be nice if anyone has photos of some they have bought.

I bought the Faux stag grips with the Texas star added for my Vaqueros from http://www.ajaxgrips.com/. I am very happy with them, the fit and finish were good. They have been on the guns for a couple years now with no problems. Real stag is a little pricey but the faux ones do look nice, not as nice as real stag but nice none the less.

You mite try the executioner up in Colorado. I strongly recommend him and he can set you up with Elk Stag for about $130 a set.
If your interested, email me and I will give you his info:D

Real stag will be pricey no matter what. Elk is less - as mentioned.
The Best stag comes from India and is called Sambar stag, and it is very expensive. India has an embargo on it I think.

They are pretty and not too expensive when compared to some other type grips. Don't have any SAA grips but, I do have a set of Executioner's Elk Stags, on an N frame S&W.
Patrick will work with customers on the amount of "bark" desired and the thickness of the grips themselves.
Well worth it!

You'd better like Indian sambar stag an awful lot, for $300. :what: I had no idea.

It's still fairly common on pocket knives. If you've ever seen a Case stag handled pocket knife, that's Sambar.
I have several knives with Sambar stag and several with other types of stag, and Sambar is noticeably much nicer material. I haven't looked at elk stag though.

Patrick's Elk Stag look nice. I've been wanting a pair of Stag grips for my 1911, but they're so expensive. $300 is waaay too much IMO.
I may go the Elk route.

I guess I should clarify what I am wanting to do. I have a nice charles may bird & trout knife with sambar stag that I want matching grips for my stainless single six. I just called Eagle grips and was shocked that they run from 300-500 dollars depending on the grade. I was hoping there were other options that may be less expensive.

Very, very nice. As much as I like Stag on nickel/stainless... I *really* like it on blue. It brings out the ivory color. Wow. Thanks for sharing :)

Some nice lookin' guns there Cocked & Locked.
Is that Nickel or Chrome on the .38 Super 1911? That one sure makes a statement.
I've liked the Stags ever since my Mattel Shootin' Shell Fanner.

I have a question for those that have stag grips on a revolver of .38 caliber or larger. Doesn't the bark on the grips tend to be too abrasive on your hands when shooting? I recently bought elk stag grips for my .22 caliber S&W model 63, figuring the low recoil will not pose an abrasion hazard. On a semi-auto there also should not be much of a problem. But on a .357 snub???

Man, this thread is painful. #1 I love stag's, they're expensive, and I love stag's... #2 I love 1911's and this thread reminds me I have no polished 38 super. So far I've resisted the Super 38, because brass costs a pretty penny and no one shoots it around here... But I can't resist forever...
I have to say, those Buffalo horn grips sure are nice, as well.
C&L, have you ever carried a bright-polished 1911? I know they scratch easily, but wouldn't a little flitz put it back in order, right quick? I carry my S&W M27 in nickel sometimes, which is also very easy to scratch, but I find if I keep it waxed up with some Carnauba wax, a little flitz will take care of any scratches very easily.

I had these elk stag grips made for my Ruger 50th anniv. .44 magnum blackhawk by a fellow named Sack Peterson. He did a great job and they're a lot more reasonable than sambar.
